Sad for those who will not have their time to shine.
I'm slightly surprised; I would have thought that the producers of this (several of whom are pretty experienced) would have known that they'd rarely go above 35% of the gross potential and factor that in. It seems they had rather unrealistic expectations of attendance.
I was also holding out for Diana Rigg.
I had tickets for Diana Rigg for next Friday. I am so upset!!
Incredible performances and star wattage aside, the whole thing was a bit of a swizz, no?
I don't mean to sound like Mr Roxy, but it didn't seem like you got much bang for your buck.
I enjoyed it, but I admit there was no buck involved.
DAMN IT! I wanted to see Anjelica Huston!
When it was first announced I was going back and forth deciding between seeing Carol Burnett or Angelica Huston. Glad I picked Carol. This is a real shame, though. The upcoming pairs looked really exciting.
That sucks, I was hoping to see Huston and Sheen
The article mentioned a national tour. Do you guys think that's realistic? Also who would go on the tour? Maybe one of the remaining pairings?
No show closes anymore without tossing in a bit about a tour or other vague future plans...
It can move to New World Stages with low-tier casts, like Hunter Foster/Jen Cody or Andrew/Andrew.
I don't recall, is something already set to take the Brooks Atkinson?
If not, any guesses as to what could be a good fit?

It was not a "set" show for sure, but getting to see Mia Farrow and Carol Burnett live was a delight.
For me it was plenty of bang for my TDF tickets.
I agree that that bit in the article about there being a national tour doesn't really mean squat, but this show wouldn't be too hard to do on tour. The entire set AND cast could probably fit into one SUV. Plus, if they use some of the celebrity pairings they had lined up, the name recognition could keep them going, especially since it wouldn't have 35 other Broadway shows to compete with.
Maybe The Visit will visit the Brooks now.
The Brooks Atkinson is booked with Sierra Boggess+Tyne Daly's new show
I wonder why they waited so long. Their grosses have been terrible since the beginning.
Caught the penultimate show of the run tonight, and really enjoyed Alda and Bergen.
Oddly enough, we had a pre-show. Some elderly woman in the third or fourth row had apparently bought a side orchestra seat, didn't like the view so she just decided to give herself an upgrade and sat in the premium seats. Not sure how she got caught, or why it became a big deal (as those seats were never used the whole time), but the ushers were talking to her and gesturing for her to come out of the seat, and she wouldn't budge. Then security came and were like, you have to move, and nothing they said would get to out. Finally, they had to bring an NYPD officer in, and he's talking to her... still nothing. So, the officer lifts her up, and sort of "helps" her vacate the theater, and since all of this has taken until 8:15p, we give the cop a round of applause. Again, not sure why she got busted, since those seats weren't waiting to be filled by others, but there seems like there has to be more to the story.

Class warfare in the theatre is finally beginning and will not end until the beheading of the Queen of the Night.
Hater, that sounds so horrible, what an as$hole that lady was. Inconveniencing the entire theater, making the show late because she didn't like her seats. Tons of people don't like their seats, but they would never act like that. It doesn't matter if those seats were empty, she didn't pay for them, it has nothing to do with anything else.
