Little Shop of Horrors will be playing at the Kennedy Center in October. The Kennedy Center website says that the performance will feature "a starry cast direct from Broadway." Any ideas who that will be?
I doubt they even know who’s in it yet. It’s part of the new Broadway Center Stage program, which is trying to basically be the D.C. equivalent of Encores! meaning that they put these things together rather quickly. I dount they’ll even start meeting or auditioning until August.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an actress of color to play Audrey!!

Any particular reason?

Nope! Just think it would be interesting.
Cynthia Erivo, Megan Hilty or Katharine McPhee for Audrey please!
The racial politics of Little Shop are... complicated, with the show's musical structure being an underlying metaphor of the encroaching blackness of late-20th century music and culture being ultimately irresistable. I'm not sure you CAN'T have an Audrey of color, but I suspect that you WON'T.
Thanks, Elegance101 -- I didn't realize this had a compressed schedule. I guess that means that tickets might actually go on sale before the show is cast.
They might be thinking about the two leads (a la Norm as Harold Hill) to drum up interest ahead of time, but the full cast won’t be set for a while. It’s hard to predict, though, as it’s only the second season of Broadway Center Stage, but I’m going based off my knowledge from this first season. :)

They haven't announced the cast for June's "How to Succeed" and the tickets have been on sale for a LONG time. Little shop is way way way too far away for casting announcements.
Now that it's the end of August, I wonder if anyone here has heard anything about casting.

So, is it like a real production of the musical or a concert version?
Does anyone knows in advance?

Sigh. Pretty straightforward casting.
What I loved about Ellen Greene and Jake Gyllenhall was how mismatched and juxtaposed they were. It was such a winning combination. This is pretty basic.

Megan will be fantastic!! So glad she's FINALLY going to play Audrey after being let go from the national tour years ago due to her being too young opposite Anthony Rapp. Perfect casting!
Wonder who's playing the dentist? That's always the most fun role.

The Kennedy Center page for the show has also reverted to the prior description with the note that Cast and Creative will be announced at a future date.

Yours was also my first thought when I read it, She always includes "Suddenly Seymour" as a duet with her husband Brian Gallagher in concerts when I've seen her.
Jessetenney,
Looks like your post from 4/16/18 prognosticated who would get the role.
Cynthia Erivo, Megan Hilty or Katharine McPhee for Audrey please!
I'm thinking of flying to D.C. to see this.

Anyone that attended the She Loves Me benefit concert that inspired the recent revival did & he's very good. He was supposed to star in the revival with Laura Benanti, but had an obligation (Mercy Street, PBS) he could not get out of. .
