I'm very anxious to hear your reviews of the CD. I still listen to the ORIGINAL obc recording (Gene Barry, George Hearn, etc) and love it. Great warmth, vocals.....
I enjoyed seeing this current production, but didn't love the vocals as much---but maybe the recording will have the missing edge.
Did you guys all get them directly from PS Classics?

All I'm saying is that Doug Hodge hits this beautiful, glorious note at the end of I Am What I Am. Tears nearly rolled.

I ordered mine last week but haven't received an e-mail confirming shipment yet. Hopefully tomorrow.
The entire thing is magical. I love how the recording flows so seamlessly. It feels like a live performance. I think they picked the perfect amount of music and dialogue to include. I know people will still argue that the original Broadway cast recording is better, but this is the only La Cage recording I want to listen to.

I agree hole heartedly! I was very pleased they included the bits of dialogue it adds a lot.
The new recording is quite amazing. Crisp & Clear with brilliant performances.
Well pi$$ $hit and crackers....mine did not come in the mail today, Mon and I am just across the river in NJ!!!!! I have to go to Philly and was hoping to listen to it on the road...I hate the trip. Well more BBAJ music and as far as getting the La Cage CD today...."I'm not that guy!...life sucks and my life sucks in particular!"

I got it here in the UK. It is fabulous...and, like many have said, it sounds like a live recording..the band is hot and all the cast! However, and its not a complaint, how I long to hear the lush sounds of the original cast recording full orchestra re mastered...I'm an opera boy who likes his overtures with a full string and brass section. But I'm glad its not been recorded with a expanded orchestra that sounds nothing like the actual current production. I'm just happy for anything new on cd.
While I did not get mine yet, it was on sale at the show on on Saturday night. They are $25.

I have it too and agree with everything said. I love this recording and was floored by Hodge's last note of "I Am What I Am"...so unexpected and so amazing!
Anybody else think Hodge's last note of I AM sounds auto-tuned? He didn't sing that note when I saw the show, and I highly doubt he can hit that 8x a week.
The whole thing sounds like a tinny mess, just as it did in the theater. At least the Night Music recording had a somewhat full sound to it.
Hodge's last note in I Am What I Am is the auto-tune equivalent of the kids on Glee singing Rose's Turn and Defying Gravity.

No surprise that the Bobbsey Twins would show up on this thread to slam La Cage for any reason whatsoever.
^ yeah and compare it to Night Music..getting really tired
^ I'm sorry. Next time I will make sure I refrain from expressing my opinions to satisfy you, Blockhead24.

Yeah it's not at all possible that he put some extra effort to reach it for the CD. No, not at all...

The last note really doesn't sound auto-toned to me. But, no, he didn't sing the note when I saw it live. As it has been discussed many times over, Hodge isn't really a singer, which is what made the note so surprising to me.
Why would you buy a cast recording for a production you hated, featuring performances you hated? Did you think it would miraculously solve itself?
