wow that really sucks. Right before they were about to start rehearsals...i don't remember the last time this happened...
I admit that there's a lot about the requirements of putting up a show that I don't know, but I wondered if there's any chance Other Desert Cities could try to snag the theater and get the production in in time? They wouldn't need as much rehearsal time, and given the rave in the Times, it wouldn't be AS important to have a healthy head start on publicity. Or is six weeks simply too short a time to make it happen? It's just a thought, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I heard Fat Pig was off.

They should publicize the name of the investor so people can write hate mail.
People are bitching on here about hating Glee this week... how about a little hate for investors that get the ball rolling, promising people jobs and the continuing life of the art form we all love so much, and then pull out...
Of course, if that had happened with Spider-Man, now in retrospect, we'd all have to say "smart investor to pull out of THAT garbage!" haha
But all joking aside, I, for one, have to say "bite me" to the deadbeat investor... whoever you are.

People's finances change.
Sauja, while that would be great, Linda Lavin's role would have to be recast or she would have to drop out of the Kennedy Center production of FOLLIES. Also, Thomas Sadoski is going to be in THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES.
Why not a transfer of Peter and the Starcatcher? The Belasco is just over a thousand seats and could be a great space for this amazing show!
The Belasco is way too big for either OTHER DESERT CITIES or PETER AND THE STARCATCHER (and frankly it would have been to big for FAT PIG as well). I'm sure they won't have to refund too many tickets, since it is likely that hardly any were sold to begin with.
I completely forgot about this.
Wow. That's pretty crazy. I mean it's just so last minute.
It's probably too late for anything else to get in the Belasco this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kathy Griffin makes a return at some point.
I think the show would've been swallowed by the particularly strong spring Broadway season though, so perhaps it's for the better.
Bummer. I was really looking forward to this!

Whomever that investor is, he did us all a favor. The play is tedious, and given the real star power on Broadway right now, it didn't stand a chance.
I feel so bad for Heather Jane Rolffe. She even quit the Les Miz tour to do the play. Show business truly sucks.
Finances do sometimes change, but sometimes investors take a look at early advance ticket sales, see the writing on the wall and use their sound judgement.
I agree with Michael Bennett. Whoever this investor was made a very smart financial decision!
On the one hand this is sad news for everyone involved in the production but on the other hand the good news is when we do get a Broadway production of Fat Pig it hopefully won't star Dane Cook.

It will never happen, but Scottsboro has a theater!
now there's two empty theaters for this spring/summer: The Belasco & The St. James.
Another 'it will never happen but....' Signature theatre Angels in America transfer? eh? eh? I'd say Peter and the Starcatcher, but I think they probably plan to do more development before ever bringing that to Bway.
The Belasco is way to big for Scottsboro Boys. If Scottsboro Boys comes back to Broadway, it needs a much smaller theatre. I really hope this theatre gets something good . It's such a shame to have the beautiful gem of a theatre empty.

Aren't all of the broadway houses too big for Scottsboro really? I mean, I get that many people here love that show (personally, I didn't when I saw it in previews), but I always thought part of the problem is that it doesn't have the mass appeal (for lack of a better term) to consistently fill a broadway size house of 1000 or more seats 8x a week.
Back to topic, I think it's more of a shame about the St. James being empty than the Belasco given it's location and the fact that aside from the super-devoted fans (aka people who post here) probably don't even know what street the Belasco's on. For the record, not knocking the Belasco but most of the east of Broadway houses don't get the foot traffic the ones west of broadway do.
Dont worry- Neither theatre will sit empty long...

Oh, I agree, the St. James will probably have something for the fall season (I doubt it'll be earlier than September but who knows) and the Belasco will as well (might still be Fat Pig depending on how quickly they find another investor)
This is a particularly strong spring season as others have mentioned so being bumped back (IF they find another investor in time) might not be a bad thing since I'm expecting at least one new show to get "lost in the shuffle" so to speak.

Angels in America had and missed its chance to transfer to Broadway. It would have done so when it had its original, more notable cast (Quinto, Borle, Chaflant) and not the also-rans that are in the show now.
