Maybe we've got to do it PoL, otherwise we'll lose whatever streetcred we've got left.

We can be like the two grumpy old men in the box at Muppets' theatre.

re: Legally Blonde - The Musical - Savoy Theatre

Right, my FULL review!

Here we go! (BTW, this WILL contain spoilers)

First off Cast,

Sheridan Smith - She was MADE for this role, vocals were weak in places, but she delivered on all the big notes that counted, and her acting was second to none, she has obviously spent ALOT of time really connecting with this character, and, SHE DIDNT LOOK TO OLD!

Duncan James - The weakest of the lot, His acting is WAY OTT and needs toning down, and he tries to add lots of embellishments (riffs for you who use that word to my annoyance!) And he also couldnt maintain the accent!

Alex Gaudmond - BRILLIANT! He had EVERYTHING spot on and, I wouldnt say he is the BEST cast member, but the strongest all rounder!

Jill Halfpenny - I dont get everyones problem, I thought she was incredible, her portrayal is VERY different to the American actresses who have played this role, but she stuck with the character she has developed and sold it to me, I also thought her singing and dancing were very strong!

Peter Davison - He did EVERYTHING he could with this small role, and really sold it to me! Just a shame that character never gets to develop more!

Caroline Keiff - Weak at times, which i did fear, but generally, acted the role well, and unfortunately, ALL her big notes were drowned out by cheering and screaming, so I cant really access them!

Aoife Mulholland - BRILLIANT! Got the character JUST right!

Now for the show itself,
ALOT of the sets were smaller and quite a few lyrical changes, I personally preferred ALL of them!
About 3 music ques were missed, which ruined the intros to some of my favourite songs, and the balances need sorting!

Main Lyric change is the WHOLE of Ireland was re-written, but I think it worked well!

Kyle (UPS Guy) STOLE the show, his lines and actions were faultless!

There was, however, one VERY stubon cast member who clearly would not do what he was told... Pongo the dog, in Omigod... he just kept on barking, non-stop til he was carried off stage, and at the bows, Sheridan had to LITERALLY drag him on stage... He wernt going KNOW WHERE!

The theatre is awful, and you really do need to pay out for a good seat!

In general, my favourite part was probably the remix, LOTS of energy and every little bit of it was delivered faultlessly!

There'll have been a lot of people who wouldn't have got the Russell Simmons joke if they hadn't changed it. Did they change the Jet Blue line too? On the other hand I understand why the changes to Ireland but why Positive?

CONAries - what row were you in? I'm trying to get an idea of the view from my seat that I have booked :) Looks great and cant wait to see it on the 16th :)

peachesr is right - keeping Russell Simmons wouldn't have gotten a laugh.

Jet Blue line was changed to something generic about the flight, and the changes to Positive I remember were for the lapdancing verse (not sure why) and the bit about Vivienne (obviously they had to change "she's twice my size" since the actress is short but they didn't use the tour lyric - the one they did use was funnier anyway).

One tour change I wish they had kept was "I'm straight/You watch Project Runway" from There! Right There! "You were not yesterday" isn't as funny but I suppose not everyone knows that tv show.

Sorry If i sound dumb but why would 'Ireland' be offensive

As an Irish person I would consider the original line "And if your Irish guy tires of you/You're allowed to shoot him in the knees" to be pretty insensitive.

re: Legally Blonde - The Musical - Savoy Theatre

Well I don't find it offensive myself either, but I think making light of the 'troubles' in the North and the ways people injured/killed each other for generations might not go down too well.

Oh and I just realised they changed "Yeah! Let out your inner freak" from Positive because 'freak' over here doesn't have the same erotic connotation.

Sounds good Scripps going to see this, I don't have much streetcred, but sounds good after a couple of pints and a couple of diazepam!!!

re: Legally Blonde - The Musical - Savoy Theatre

theyre just trying to stop the complaints with ireland i think... the last thing the show needs is bad publicity when its opening at such a difficult time.

however... i do think its rather silly especially when there's shows like billy elliott out there which do exactly the same thing.

oh well... welcome to non offensive england.... IF ONLY!!!

re: Legally Blonde - The Musical - Savoy Theatre

I loved it. Totally didn't expect to.
Sheridan and alex are just wonderful and sooo lovable and fun.

Loads of hiccups with the set, the house didn't lift at the start so the show stopped and restarted 10mins later, the benches got stuck in court and the salon is shakier than the worst amateur panto.

But the cast are terrific, all the movement was really tight given it's only the second day. That skipping whilst singing is mighty impressive.

The rat dog got stage fright and refused to come on at the end but the rest of the cast seemed to enjoy it.
