All of these photos are very exciting.
Does anyone want to speculate on which songs they will cut altogether and which songs they will shorten?
These are the songs I can imagine on the chopping block:
-Fantine's Death (shorten)
-The Bargain (cut)
-Stars (shorten)
-Red and Black (cut or shorten at least)
-In My Life (shorten)
-A Little Fall of Rain (shorten to concert version)
-Drink With Me (shorten)
-Dog Eats Dog (cut)
-Javert's Suicide (shorten)
-Turning (cut - please!)
And how do you think they will handle the finale with all of the ghosts singing a rousing final anthem? I can't see how they'd work that into the film.

I'm not convinced they are cutting anything, since the screenwriter said this:

Hi Mr Nicholson, Apparantly you'll be on scripting duties again for a film adaptation of the musical version of Les Miserables. Is this true? And how will you go about adapting it; will you try and keep some of the dialogue or will you do a complete rewrite? I look forward to seeing your efforts (assuming the project goes forward and you are actually on scripting duties!)
William Nicholson responded:
I have been working on the screenplay for Les Miserables, yes. Since the whole idea is to make it close to the musical, WITH ALL THE SONGS, it won't of course be a radical rewrite. However, I have been able to develop the story and enhance the characters, in what is already a very powerful piece. Still a long way to go, and many other talents will be at work on the project before it's done.<<<
Having said that, "Turning" is in there because they cast a young girl simply called "turning girl." I'm not sure they will cut any of the iconic songs/solos. The finale will be interesting to say the least.

I believe the finale has already been filmed based on a cryptic conversation Samantha Barks had on twitter describing an "ethereal" scene with Anne

There's no way they're cutting Red and Black or the Bargain- Red and Black is a pretty iconic scene, and the Bargain is a necessary plot song. I really hope they don't cut A Little Fall of Rain. I don't see Dog Eat Dog being totally cut either, but I can see it being shortened.
Edited to add: If that's Eponine's costume in that photo, it's one of the best I've seen! You might actually mistake her for a boy.

In this thread, someone stated that the movie will not be sung-through as it is in the stage production. They will have dialogue. That makes me wonder if they will shorten songs like "Red and Black" and "The Bargain" since these songs are essentially dialogue. If they don't want a three hour film, they'll have to shorten or cut songs where the purpose can be achieved more quickly through spoken dialogue. Also, I can imagine them shortening "Red and Black" given that "Do You Hear the People Sing?" follows it and delivers a very similar message.
Where did you find this conversation with Mr. Nicholson?

Sorry, I meant to put in the link - this is the page where you can ask him a question and he does answer them if anyone has the nerve.

Also, you can search past questions - there are quite a few on Les Mis if you put that in the search engine.

Alright, I am starting to let myself get kind of excited for this movie...it looks to be pretty epic. Can't wait to start seeing official stuff.
Side note:
Gavroche?

Here's a photo of the actor playing Gavroche:

As far as the colors you're seeing in these "raw" photos, keep in mind that they do a lot of filtering in movies in post production now.
For so many cinematic battle movies today, colors are desaturated and the whole thing is given a blueish cold tint. (They do that in a lot of TV dramas now, too.)
The point is, I wouldn't assume that the colors you see here will be the ones you see in the final movie. They could look very different after the filters are added.

Re the sung-through format, this was the reply I received from screenwriter Bill Nicholson last year--

Thanks for replying to the inquiries on the Les Miserables film project. I am looking forward to the film version very much. My question - will you retain the sung-through format basically? Or will it be part full songs, part recitatives, and part spoken dialog? If completely sung-through, are you also collaborating with the team of Boublil and Schonberg?
William Nicholson responded:
Les Miserables is the creation of Boublil and Schonberg and naturally they remain in key position throughout. We are planning to introduce some spoken dialogue, so not full sung-through as on stage<<<

Costume fitting for Hugh Jackman as Monsieur Le Maire --
There is also a video that confirms that this is Hugh's costume for Les Miserables, most likely when he is M. Madeleine!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/audioslideshow/2012/apr/11/sands-films-studios-audio-slideshow
Check out the video at around 1'10" to see him trying out his costume.
He is wearing facial hair on the photo because this must have been filmed early on - when costumes were being fitted. He was likely still growing the facial hair. As he has shaved the full facial hair after the scenes with convict Valjean have been completed( and has been seen around New York the past few days during a short break with a fully clean-shaven face) it is likely that he will be wearing this costume for that era without any facial hair?

I really like the look(s).
Same. Here's a new one of the students.
I CANNOT GET OVER THIS. http://hope72.tumblr.com/post/20962567721/just-a-little-teaser-of-what-i-have-for-you
Seems like they're doing so much right, I hope it doesn't get undermined by their rush to get this done this year.

Oooh, that's our first look at Marius, isn't it?
I think so. And it took me a while to recognize Aaron Tveit.
(Maybe they're not going for the xylophone costume! I think I'm relieved.)

Haha yeah. I wasn't entirely positive on that one, but figured he must be. So I should say our first look at both of them.

I agree.... blonde!
It was the hobbit fluff more than anything else. :)
Is that a wig on Aaron? Because pretty sure a few weeks ago he still had brown short hair while filming his USA Network TV Series...
And I am so excited to see Eddie Redmayne as Marius!!

I also took a second look before realizing it was Aaron - must have been the red flag that confirmed it -LOL!
madbrian---the "rush" will only happen in post production, and if they have enough hands on deck and enough money to throw at it for overtime, they'll get it done in time for late December. It's going to be a crazy-fast and massively huge post schedule, though.
The trick (and potential wrench) will be if anything goes wrong in production. That will cause extra time digitally fixing something visually on screen (stuff that should or shouldn't be there, or stuff that doesn't look right), or extra time in the recording booth looping dialogue or singing messed up by "unseen forces" during a live take. That sort of thing. Risky, to be sure.
Given that they are recording all the songs live, will there be a chance fo them releasing a "movie soundtrack" of the cast singing all the songs?
