Looking ahead - 09-10 musicals

Posted: 5/24/09 at 7:21pmI thought that the recent article for Love Never Dies said that the London and Broadway productions were to start at the same time around March which would make it a part of the 2009/2010 season

MERRILY was scrapped for financial issues, I believe.
But we have NIGHT MUSIC to look forward to, and maybe iSondheim from Roundabout.

I'm not a fan of MERRILY at all, but A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is an incredibly exciting choice for a revival (though I can't help but feeling quite sad that THE perfect Desiree is no longer with us). I just hope that they don't cast a 20 year old to play Desiree like the London production did, and though I'm sure the London cast is wonderful, I really hope they get a NY-cast, there are so many Broadway actors I'd love to see tackle those roles in what unbelievably would be the very first Broadway revival of this show. I was hoping Lincoln Center would produce a Barlett Sher-directed production but any LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is better than none.
The idea of iSondheim is appealing, I just wonder if Roundabout can do it justice.

Posted: 5/25/09 at 2:37amIs Once 09-10, or is it going to be in the '11 season? That's one of the things I'm most looking forward to, besides Houdini.

Posted: 6/10/09 at 1:04amOne may also assume that "Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure" may transfer. Two Broadway try-outs, seems like Frank is serious about this one...or "Bonnie & Clyde." I assume which ever one gets the better reviews will transfer first/if at all!

What about "Get Happy"
I haven't read of any definitive timeline and they are unsure if the film or stage version will come first.

Posted: 6/10/09 at 2:00amis Sunset Boulevard definitely transferring?

But SUNSET, RAGTIME, SOUND OF MUSIC, EVERYDAY RAPTURE, FELA!, HOUDINI, MINKY'S, and SISTER ACT all have only been rumored to open next season.
Unless I missed something...

Posted: 6/10/09 at 3:49amThe New York transfer of Sunset is going ahead - it will be announced in a few months time with an opening sometime in the fall of 2010.

#69re: Looking ahead - 09-10 musicals
Posted: 6/10/09 at 9:24amYou realize that after Labor Day there will probably only be around 20-25 shows running, so nearly half of the theaters will be dark.

Since Hugh Jackman is doing that play with Daniel Craig, i think it's safe to assume that HOUDINI will not be on the 09-10 season.
thanks for the input.
Looks promising.

Posted: 6/10/09 at 4:28pmAnd I am still not sure that "Love Never Dies" should have been excluded from this 09/10 season. It depends when "Spring" really refers to for the West End. But Broadway is supposed to be following only 6 weeks later, if not sooner. And the apparent "insider" comment that it might even open within a day of London, albeit negated, could still make sense with the inteval accounted for by a long preview period.

After London, LND is opening in Toronto for a limited run "try-out" (probably 12 weeks) then transferring to New York.
Possible timeline:
Early March - world premiere in London
Late March - opening in Toronto (for a limited try-out run of probably 12 weeks)
Late June - 12 weeks later, opening in New York. Any opening date after June 1 puts the show firmly in the 2010-2011 season.
