I attended Patti's "The Gypsy in My Soul" in vegas tonight, and just as she began DONT CRY FOR ME......she stopped the show to get mad at someone in the audience. "You right there. Whatever you are doing. Taking Photos. Video. Texting. STOP. It is VERY distracting!!" Then, she went on to begin the song a few more times, but each time she would stop and go on about how disrespectful the person was being. At one point she asked the person to explain what they were doing, but the person did not respond. She said, "If you want to text instead of watching my show, you can get out. I scared the **** out of you, didn't I?"
So yea, that was interesting.
For a second, I thought I was at the St. James.
She stopped the show I saw but for entirely different reason lol. She got the hiccups during Meadowlark and stopped and restarted halfway through. But I really would have scared if I were you!
How was the rest of the concert?

Hooray for LuPWNage.
Geez, if I ever get a chance to see her in concert, I'm considering bringing my laptop and surfing the net during the show, just so I can say she went off on me. Now there's a story to tell the grandkids!
Darn it. I saw it yesterday in Vegas and there were no Diva issues whatsoever. Darn it! But I did find it funny that (I suppose spoilers ahead if for some reason you don't want to know what happens in the show) she ended with "The Way You Look Tonight", disposable camera in hand and taking pictures of all the audience members. I found it hilarious. Not sure if everyone in the audience got that, but still. Oh I would have hated to have my Argentina interrupted, but I think it would kind of be worth it to see one of her 'moments'.
The concert was great, other than the awkwardness for a short bit!
yes-the photo taking at the end was especially hilarious!
I've seen her a bunch of times, but I always miss these exciting incidents.
not to mention the fact that 90% of the audience was over 70, and all of their cell phones kept going off...and I dont think they could even hear their own phones.

I'm hoping to see one of her concerts in the fall and while I kinda want to witness a Lupwn in person, I'd be terrified too.
Can someone please tell Ms. LuPone that she cannot always live in Neverland for ever and at some point in her life she has to grow up and learn what it is like to be a grownup instead of a little girl.

Wow... she seems a bit power hungry since January.
...and I wouldn't have my Patti LuPone any other way.
When I first heard she was playing Vegas, the first thing I thought of was how rude the audiences there are. Didn't she know what she was getting into?
Maybe Patti is the one who should just stay home if she can't handle performing live. Incidents like that make the audience uncomfortable and can ruin an evening. She needs to chill out.
Go Patti!
Couldnt agree more bettyboy
I dont get where the diva in her comes from, she aint owt special

It's her own candid concert, so she can do whatever she likes. And no, she shouldn't learn to deal with it...too many people deal with disrespect and have thus allowed it to continue...it's a shame.
It's unprofessional. She can speak to house management, etc. to have matters addressed.
Yes, it is rude and unacceptable when audience members do that, but matching that behavior is lame IMO. I think people who believe her antics are fine would start feeling differently if all actors began the practice and interrupted shows to correct audience members. Actors are trained to transcend distractions.
Wasn't she fined for her Gypsy meltdown? If so, it was done for a reason.
I agree that audiences are getting worse by the day, but as a performer commit to the performance or don't perform. She could have easily left the stage and had the matter addressed by someone else. She looks like a moron when she does that.
Insufferable....and she's egged on by all those Patti-maniacs who love when she pulls her diva crap. She rakes in big bucks for these shows and then treats the audience like it's their privelege she deigns to sing for them. For most of the audience who's paid through the nose, they deserve a show not a lecture. But in Lupone's world of unprofessional self-involvement it's all about her. She should either settle down and start behaving with a little class or just hang it up. ALW was onto something after all.
Patti is a class act.
When I pay to see Patti LuPone, or any performer live, I don't pay to be distracted by noisy audience members' personal electronics.
I know from regular personal experience, as do others on this board who attend live theatre and concerts regularly, that it is very difficult to stop the distracting behavior of other audience members while the show is going on.
Ms. LuPone does the dirty work for us, so that the show can continue, and can be enjoyed by all.
Brava, Patti.

She clearly lives for this kind of thing, so good for her for finding a way to get her rocks off during a show.
Phyllis is exactly right...clearly she feeds off of this and her little lemmings adore her for it. She's just trying to create some controversy so that after she is gone, she is included in history of theatre books with these "diva" anecdotes.
While others applaud these stories and wish they were there, I am glad I wasn't. I adore her talent, but like her less and less with this nonsense.
WBAF, I pay to see Patti too....to see her sing, not brandish her own form of punishment on her audience. Stick to the act, Ms. LuPone.
I feel that this situation is fine in which to do it in.
I do still disagree with stopping a show to do it.
