Thank you @BrodyFosse123, that makes a lot more sense. I was imagining more of the hilariously bad segments when they dressed up Brosnan and Firth in rocker/hippie clothing.
I really hope they'll include the songs: "Happy New Year", "One man, One woman", "The day before you came", "That's me", "Angel Eyes", "Summer Night City, "Happy Hawaii", "Tiger", "Kisses of fire", "Why did it have to be me", "Hole in your soul", "Under attack", "Disillusion", and "As good as new".
Woohoo! Love Seyfried.

I remember CBS Sunday Morning did a segment on him back in 2014, and at one point, he talked about how he’d be driving his kids to school while practicing the song, ‘S.O.S.’, and even they didn’t like what they heard."
Apparently, Brosnan is eager to sing again in the sequel...

Streep is going to be non-stop for a while. She's currently filming THE PAPER with Speilberg for a December/January release, and then I assume will go right into filming this.

I find this funny because I dreamcasted her as Rapunzel in Into The Woods movie who is of course Meryl Streep's character's adopted/kidnapped daughter
It's all true. I had the great pleasure of working with Ms. Baranski on this a couple of weeks ago, playing the songs for her, plunking out the melodies, recording rehearsal tracks on her phone, etc. I also, on separate days, played the auditions for some of the other characters (young Donna, young Tanya, etc.).
I can't say much more than that, but everyone is excited and I'm sure it will be as much fun as the first one!

When will they be shooting this? I wonder if this will affect the chances of getting Colin Firth to do My Fair Lady?

Ughhh, not another movie musical for Amanda Seyfried. I'm forever bitter about her playing Cosette.

This MAMMA MIA! sequel we be fully wrapped before the end of the year. Pre-production is already in full swing then it's straight into principal photography which will take 2-3 months and cast is done. Their post work (looping/ADR) can be done remotely so it can done anywhere they are at.
I find it odd that they keep announcing cast members who signed but saying Meryl Streep is expected to return. Shouldn't they have started with her? Do they really have a movie if she changes her mind? And if Pierce Brosnan returns does his character really need to sing?

The past century had Julie Andrews as a big singing movie star, this century has Amanda Seyfried. Each one represents a generation. That is what people will see when they look back in 300 years.

I completely agree with this assessment. Amanda Seyfried is indeed this generation's Julie Andrews. Playing G(a)linda in the upcoming film adaptation of WICKED will solidify this even more.

Whar Mr. Nowack said. We haven't had our generation's movie Julie Andrews yet. Not for cinema/TV yet. Closest IMO we got was Megan Hilty in Smash but here's hoping she has a brighter future. I have really high hopes for Cynthia Erivo as well who clearly has an excellent agent and already well connected. Kristin/Idina both have achieved success but it's second tier to what Ms. Andrews had.

Is true that Meryl Streep won't make a lead role in Mamma Mia Here we go again ?
I hope you know I was being sarcastic. I was trying to make a point that something is going very wrong at the moment, if this is our number 1 musical leading lady for 2 decades.
What will future generations think?
My bad, you do not convey your sarcasm well. It's difficult to pick out when you exaggerate when you're being serious too.
Truth is this generation will not have a Julie Andrews. There just aren't those kinds of talents that can gain such widespread success over so many mediums.
ETA: actually I think Hugh Jackman is probably the closest to Julie Andrews at the moment.
They are obviously using a lot of the same songs as the original, right? Better not be a sequel with the songs from ABBA nobody knows / didn't make the cut. It's the music I'd be more concerned about.

I'm not sure which project is more unnecessary...a Mamma Mia sequel, or a live-action Lion King.
*bangs head on desk*
Live-action Lion King. Definitely that. I'd lap up any excuse to get Meryl Streep on screen. *shrug*
^Yessss, even though more new film musicals keep being announced, the fact that 90% are sequels or reboots is a bit frustrating. Here's to hoping that the interest will bring along new material/Broadway adaptations.
