Yes. The role description said "All ethnicities" from the start. Any racist desire to sideline and erase white people from the show completely was an ugly figment of your imagination.

It is a 90% asian cast, which is great and 2 lead robot roles that look like a mixed race couple in the way it has been cast so far. 99% of the audience thinks Criss is white too. That's all there is to it. You have absolutely no right to scream and complain that it's only a 90% asian cast and stop cheering when it's not a 100% asian cast. That's malicious.

Judging based on the seating charts this week we can expect it to be on TKTS a lot, but the show is still selling well and will be fine/mostly sold out before curtain.

Can we at least acknowledge that Darren was a bit of a draw though?

Same old song but okay: did that “many” in the Asian-American community buy a ticket to support the show when it was basically on life support? Or did they only say “Yay the show won Tonys and people now know Darren is Asian so I have a connection to this show now! *I* have finally been given my place because of this show!” Because the show never owed them anything, and if they didn’t support the show it owed them even less.

And if you insist Wayman, we can just eradicate Miss Saigon altogether. And then where will all that work be for Asian actors? It’ll be Miss Sai-GONE.

Conversely, I don’t want to miss anything anyone shares because everyone has the right to express their opinion. Plus, even if people sometimes say things I don’t agree with, they often share interesting news or thoughts that I value. It would be a disservice to myself to put up a wall against that. 

But if people want to cut off their nose to spite their face…

I am partly Asian and I think it is very evil that you keep demanding that we stay victims. You truly see us as inferior. Equal treatment will be very difficult then. And it painfully shows in your reactions on this board. You have so much self-hate and guilt, you will never be satisfied. You have absolutely nothing to complain about in this case, a show with a 90% asian cast. And a role in a show that very clearly said : All ethnicities. And a percentage on Broadway that's already completely skewed. You should be celebrating. This white actor (ABF) even needs to hide himself from promotional activities for his fictional role in order to not be attacked, it's like we are back in the 1940's. The last white person in a cast must be erased too. This is a nauseating and slippery path and this overton window must be shattered today.

We live in dark and dangerous times indeed, where white people have to hide because of their race. Even when they are cast in roles of which the casting description says "All ethnicities". As soon as it happens the attacks begin. The other way around is all great and amazing.
