Without a doubt. It was never because Feldman isn't Asian. It was always because he's white.

Back when people were sane, there was a word for that. It was called racism.

Some people definitely have not stayed quiet with the Savy news.

the woke mob strikes again

the writers have already gone out of their way to publicly dismiss this nonsense

and yet some ppl think their opinion magically overrules the creative team's intentions

andrew barth feldman and savy jackson have more than proven they have earned their casting

sanity is actually what has returned to the landscape

we now know that identity politics is self-defeating

and agitating up a bogus controversy like this one

is lame

Re: MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews

A quick check of the comments on Playbill's Instagram story on this shows that plenty of people are not happy about it, and know exactly what the producers are doing. They are determined to deny Asian actors these roles (and if the authorial intent is racist, trying to justify something as what the authors intend doesn't matter. It's racist). Going straight to replacing an Asian lead with a white guy drew too much attention, so they're going with another, non-Asian minority to make it something people shouldn't object to. What, are you really going to criticize a Black actress and deny her a role? (Pitting minorities against each other to uphold white supremacy: as American as apple pie.) And once you have a Black performer in the role, why shouldn't anyone else play it since it's now established that the character doesn't have to be played by an Asian performer? Cue the all-white cast.

It's a frog in boiling water scenario, except everyone is aware they're being cooked.

And if Mezzodiva is in your side, you are clearly in the wrong.

Re: MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews

Yeah, I'm not sure the producers of this show are attempting to uphold white supremacy. The more likely explanation is they can't get anyone with a name (be they Asian, black, white etc) to star in this thing and boost the box office. So they just promoted the understudy because that's the easiest thing to do.
