I think Streep is a great choice, she can really hit those high notes. I like the idea of Goldie Hawn as Tanya and Bette Middler as Rosie. But, I wouldn't mind to see Rosie as Rosie.

I, for one, am thrilled with the idea of streep in the role.
I love the idea of degarmo involved with the film, but i'd like to see her as one of sophie's friends.
I Love the anne hathaway idea however, want her in gypsy and don't want prada part 2.
I also like the idea of mandy moore.
....ps- emmy is recording an album so after she will probably be promoting it and such so wouldn't be able to be sophie, which i'm okay with.
....i kinda wish reese or jenny garner were 5-7 years younger.
lookwise, i could see alexi bledel (however, i don't think she could sing it...... or act it)
I DO like the kristin bell idea...
I think olivia should head to the b'way production. i'd be happy with that.
I'd like eric mcormick to be one of the dad's
I'm excited for this movie....and for the soundtrack.
Yeah the soundtrack is great, that means we don't have to deal with the awful London Cast Recording for much longer!

Can't wait for the movie. Meryl Streep! Excellent! I saw an ABBA touring company this past summer with two original members. What a show! Hopefully a holiday 2007 release.
Love Meryl, Love that a movie of this super-fun show is being made, LOVE that it will be shot in Greece !!!!
And as much as I love Olivia, really, does anyone believe that she is a box-office draw ??? Studios are interested only in making money ! Wonderful, sweet, talented but forgotten Olivia never had a chance !
Kristin Bell is wonderful and looks the most conceivably like Streep.
Stupid question
Is the american production of this done with american accents or have they kept it British?
It is performed with American accents. I saw it in London with the original cast and then in Chicago pre-Broadway. Though I loved it both times, I have to say I enjoyed the American production more, probably because I was more familiar with the dialect and comedic timing, but I don't mean to take anything away from the London production (or British humor, which I adore), which was fantastic as well. But it was interesting to compare the exact same show in both dialects.

Ok, I have just checked up Anne Hathaway. She looks just like the woman on the Mamma Mia playbill, only more gorgeous and with a comedic twist. She has the star power and obviously good chemistry with Meryl Streep (that prada movie). And she can sing! She is definetely somebody to love and i think she is the perfect fit. Only question, can she hit all the high notes and can she come off as a convincing daughter to Streep?
Even if they don't go for a blond streep and a brunette Hathaway which actually could be fun, they do have different eyes. But i think this could make for some good lines in the beginning of the movie when Sophie is starting to wonder who her father could be. Streep could say something like: "Although it was I who brought you up i think your father gave you your eyes", which could have a double meaning if she in the beginning would be critical of Sophies choice of future husband, or just implying that it's up to Sophie to choose.
Finally, Is there any betting firm that take bets on which actors who will star in specific movies?

I don't think any of the singing would be too much of a problem for Hathaway, especially in a movie where she'd have the chance to do take after take to get it right.
I have too much time on my hands, haha!

I just want to add that Jackman has a few other movies in the planning stages that aren't listed on IMDB, including "Carousel" (where I recently read a quote from him a few months back on one of his publicity rounds saying they recently got the rights to the it).
Mandy Mooore would be a wonderful Sophie.
Ok, so is this movie going to be a MUSICAL, or just the story of Mamma Mia??
If the woman can sing, why didn't they try and get her to be Lovett in Sweeney? I think that would have been a better choice that HBC... I love Meryl Streep...
They did. It was talked about earlier in this thread.
Okay, I'm watching Prairie Home Companion and still don't get the whole Streep-has-a-great-voice thing. She sounds strong and good within a 5 note range. Anything above that, the voice immediately pulls back and becomes soft and weak.
Her acting is great though - I prefer her acting in this to Prada - she's really throwing herself into that one.
WAIT!
Streep was up for the part of Eva in EVITA.
Can I get some details? Please!

She was going to play Evita. Oliver Stone was going to direct, Paula Abdul was going to choregoraph. Streep pulled out before shooting started, citing exhausting I think. Circa 1989 or so.
Emmy Rossum is attending Columbia University.
She would only be available during the summer.
