I know I'm in the minority, and this debate comes up a lot and we all know each other's position, but I honestly couldn't care less about seeing a woman of color as Eliza. Of course Audra is too old for the role now but it's such a great opportunity that it'd be unfortunate for her name not to be considered. I'm all about suspension of disbelief, and if I can accept that people are breaking out into song, I can accept one of our most beloved Broadway divas as Eliza accent or no accent. McDonald seems to provoke the most interesting discussions in this respect, I truly do wonder what the discussion was around casting her in CAROUSEL and 110 IN THE SHADE.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
