I hadn't really thought of her for this role, but I actually think it might work. Most of Madonna's film performances aren't any great shakes, but I think she's capable of giving a solid performance with the right direction.

Was he unhappy with her singing or unhappy that the music was transposed down for her? I think Madonna could sing the score well enough in the Glenn Close keys (a bit better than Close, at least).

And to quote Glenn Close when asked a few years ago about any film adaptation of the musical version of SUNSET BLVD.

Posted: 4/8/11 at 2:07pmI'd love to see this. I'd pick Glenn, Barbra or Liza, but will settle for Madonna.

Because Madge is a consummate actress, able to jump from light comedy to grande dame, to tragedy in the blink of an eye and always in total command of the character.
That's very difficult to type without spewing on the keyboard.

Posted: 4/8/11 at 3:24pmI could actually sort of see this working (I mean, the material is so flawed, she wouldn't exactly be pissing on anything with an inconsistent performance). Not on film, though. There should never, ever be a film remake of Sunset Boulevard.

Posted: 4/8/11 at 4:05pmI think Madonna would do it. She did a Broadway play back in the day(after she became a superstar) and a play in the West End a few years ago. She was also in Evita, when musical movies were ancient history. She has surprised people with her choices.
