BroadwaySpotted got their scoop about two months late. Look for Jason Danieley to take over as Dan once BDJ departs or so I've heard.

Spamalot, Enron and now Next to Normal? What a waste of Marin's talent. I wonder when will this Broadway DIVA be in a good show for a change.

But seriously, what will the N2N children/groupies/rejects do? Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley? They don't have a young following like Ripley and BDJ. If the stalkers/fan girls & boys do catch on to them, I hope they are prepared!

This is a GOOD THING.

Ripley won't be the only OBC member on the tour, at least initially.

And, I think when they advertise her as appearing "in her Tony winning role" there might be some cache to having her attached to it. Particularly when they advertise the reviews she received.

Marin would be a great choice for Diana, and I'd be interested to see a real live husband-wife combination as Dan/Diana (I'm sad to have missed the one night only Berry/Berry performance). When I started reading this thread, my first thought was, "Maybe they'll get her husband to play Dan."

Heck, when they're done with the role, they could get Carolee Carmello and Greg Edelman to do it together!

As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jason Danieley, he doesn't strike me as having the right type of voice for Dan. He's got the smooth, classical tenor that will be glorious on Light in the Dark. But I can't see him singing I Am the One.

I love that the young folks who do lotto every night for this show think they're the financial backbone holding Next to Normal together.

And don't tease me adamgreer. I'd kill to see Carolee Carmello play Diana.

While I get what you mean, BJH. Spencer is not a big booming baritone like BDJ and Michael Berry. So maybe Danieley would sound closer to Spencer?

I've always wanted to hear Danieley sing a rock-pop score.

BJH, have you heard Daniely's country/bluegrass album? It really reveals another side of his voice.

Don't say such unfortunate things, ljay. Lol. I hope to god Jason would be leagues better than Bobby. That being said, I would be back to the Booth for the first performance that Jason and Marin did together if this were true.

And guys, not to burst your bubbles, but Carolee would be TERRIBLE in this part. Like just hearing the vibrato in my head makes my brain want to burst. "You don't KNoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOw". Yikes.

ETA: Yes Mildred. I have. I also was at a concert he did at the Zipper where he sang all of that music. His voice is gorgeous, but he doesn't have a strong belt. Updated On: 5/25/10 at 02:06 PM

My first thought/fantasy for someone to tour as Diana or replace Ripley would be Carolee Carmello also. She would be absolutely fantastic. That being said, BRING ON MARIN MAZZIE.

Carmello did audition. I assume along with every other woman of a certain age from the Broadway community.

Marin Mazzie would be excellent and she'd definitely get me to go back to the show, especially if Jason Danieley joins her.

I'd see it for Mazzie/Danieley.

As would I.

And if Carolee joined the brigade... I'd be there on multiple occasions.

As far as Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley being vocally right for the roles...I am of the camp that believes well trained singers such as them can sing anything.

Ripley and BDJ didn't have a young following until this show. But I agree. The N2N crazies will pull a Hair and b*tch and moan that the new cast sucks because they don't do it exactly like the old cast (and by "do it exactly like the old cast" I mean, be friends with the crazies on Facebook), then flee en masse to find a new show to infect.

When I saw the show I imagined Sherie Rene taking over, but Mazzie is proving an exciting prospect the more I think about it.
