Image is everything, I find it ironic and it doesn’t matter that they tested everybody but everyone shown on camera and the audience is not wearing a mask yet the Broadway league is enforcing the audience attending a show to wear a mask
It just shows you the hypocrisy and the mixed signals.
If they really want to show the power of their COVID enforcement then they would’ve still had mask which represents the true audience currently going to Broadway shows

If you had gone to the Tonys you would have had to wear one too.

All members seated in the orchestra were tested preshow.
Masks are required in the mezzanine and balcony.

HARDLY discrimination.
Enough about masks.
The people sitting in the orchestra have been treated as performers and have followed the same protocols as every Broadway show. They have tested something like 4 times this week. I don’t understand the constant griping about wearing a mask in a theater.

But that’s because they’re the elite. They don’t have to wear masks.
OY. Get over it - you're not even there.

I for one would like to thank Ruthie Ann Miles as she seems to have been one of the only people in the orchestra actually wearing a mask!

This is not exactly right. We had to provide a negative PCR test that was taken either Friday or Saturday. It was one test.

There are two leads in shows, including one who was supposed to perform tonight, who are currently out sick with Covid. So maybe be grateful that people are literally risking death to entertain you, rather than complaining about the dress code.

You just proved my point, two actors out because of Covid yet no one is wearing a mask. You have LuPone who gets angry that audiences are not wearing masks yet no one around her is wearing one, it doesn’t matter if you were tested on Friday Saturday or Sunday morning, it’s all about optics and mixed messaging
So many people thanked the Covid protocols yet isn’t what they did tonight a slap in their face and shows the inconsistency to those who have to enforce it
That is why it’s hypocrisy

Will be very curious if the mandate extends into July. Guess we will find out soon.

This is why the “testing” requirement for the Tony’s orchestra seats was utter nonsense. There were plenty of contagious people there who tested negative. That decision was all about money and visibility and class. The peons still had to be masked.
We’re all so happy to be celebrating broadway’s return so why is it so hard to wear a mask to help it stay that open? As tired as we are (I’m still wearing N95 and face shield as work and required to test 2x/week so I understand tired!) this is not over. I agree with the optics being bad if we’re still asking audiences to comply. And facts are, people up on stage and in the seats are/were contagious at the time of the show - I’m just hoping our version of theater super bowl doesn’t turn out to be a super spreader.

I think it's basically time that we stop wearing masks and stop testing and learn to live with the virus. It is mutating down, its breakthrough effects are now, for most people, that of a mild cold. It seems impolitic to say this these days, but people are very close to dying from Covid at the rate they die from the flu. Which isn't very many.
Masking clearly didn't help at the Tonys. And it felt icky that the "poors in the balcony" had to be masked while the wealthy were not. Yikes.
