Posted: 5/25/08 at 9:08pmDear God, Sarah singing "Pie Jesu" from ALW's "REQUIEM" was horrible! What happened to her angelic voice from the past? Rock-wee-ahm?

Ruprecht, I thought exactly the same thing when I heard that. Also, it sounded to me like she took a breath in a wrong place.
The last time I saw her sing that song was in the video of the ALW birthday celebration. She was much worse then, rounding her mouth so you could barely understand the words. At least this time you could understand the words, but the pronunciation was off.

Yeah, and did anyone notice that Sarah has aged...just a little, Idina looked and sounded great, but she definitely had DC hair- the humidity down there is awful.
On a slightly less superficial note-- the montages with all of the older vets were touching, definitely reminded me of my grandpa who passed away a few years ago. He was so proud to be a WWII vet and an american.
Happy Memorial Day.

I'm not an Idina fan, but she looked and sounded wonderful.
Brightman, on the other hand, was a MESS. What an AWFUL performance and an AWFUL choice of song. "Pie Jesu" was bad enough, but then an operatic version of "There You'll Be?" It was camp.

The choice of Pie Jesu at that point was, to me, very appropriate. But Sarah Brightman should refresh her memory of how she sung it in 1985. No embellishments or changing pronunciation. Just a clean, clear sound that blended well with the boy soprano. Such was not the case this time -- and I have to wonder why the boy soprano was where he was instead of standing a bit closer to her. The balance between the two voices sounded very poor to my ears.

You'll have to check your local listings -- every PBS station is different. Mine isn't running the concert again today, but some others may be.
Sarah's pronunciation WAS off, but it wasn't as off as it had been during the dress rehearsal the night before. Again, she did better with the second song, I thought.
Idina had her hair in a ponytail at the rehearsal and it looked really nice. She should have gone with that again. It's really the only way to combat D.C. hair, especially in the summer.

Posted: 5/26/08 at 3:26pmThere shouldn't have been any problems with DC hair. It was a beautiful day in the 70's with no humidity. Extremely unusual weather for Memorial Day in DC.

I don't think there were any problems. I thought her hair looked gorgeous. She had it 1940's style---side part with pin curls.
