I don't appreciate the condescending tone, pennywise. I'm aware i'm a teacher. Why else would you tell me I'm a teacher other than to create a condescending tone?
All I asked was if you agreed with what I said in that last post. And you do agree. So all is well with the world, even though your tone was STILL NOT NICE.

Here is your statement George: "someone who has Down's is automatically mentally retarded. Do you agree with that?"
No, I do not.
LOOK IT UP.

All right I just read up on my Down's again. Some of the sites were clear in saying that Down Syndrome is a cause of mental retardation. Other sites did not make such clear statements.
I guess I did not realize that if I say Down Syndrome is a FORM of mental retardation instead of saying Down Syndrom is a CAUSE of mental retardation on a message board, its ok to call me names, and condescendingly remind me of my occupation, rather than just simply corrrecting my word slip.

I just read this entire thread with interest. I am with marilynrita. People who are disruptive should not be allowed in theatres where their disruptiveness will spoil the enjoyment of hundreds of others. I know of several theatres with viewing boxes for mothers with babes-in-arms who might cry. I am sure other disruptive persons would be allowed to sit in there if they are unable to be quiet.
It is simply common courtesy that you should not take someone to the theatre if there is a high chance they will not be able to sit still and be quiet. I was at a concert production of South Pacific a few years ago which was in a very small house and there was a man in the back row (which was only about the 20th row, and there was no mezzanine - I said it was small) who would not stop yelling. I was unable to concentrate on and enjoy the performance, and nor were many people around me. Unfortunately, the show was only one act long, and no ushers seemed willing to approach that side of the house. Quite frankly, I was pissed, and still am. First noise should be a warning, second should be immediate removal, no exceptions.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 2:16amI dont mind what marilynrita said at all, it is the way she said it. I dont see how CAPITALS AND !!!! were necessary, but she did warn of being blunt and PIC, so there are no hard feelings anymore

It makes you smile when people you disagree with are called snobs? How sad. I am starting to lose faith in this messageboard as a conduit of civilized discussion when name-calling makes people smile. How awful.

Oh my, how do you go on with life? Still "pissed" after all these years? Really, what an ordeal you must have suffered. With this world full of such misery as children having their arms cut off for Blood Diamonds and Tornadoes destroying neighborhoods or even a never ending unjust war going on, your pain from a man making noise during a show is truly heartbreaking. We feel your pain.

So because there is misery in parts of the world, we must be silent about any misery in our lives?
And the person who talked about South Pacific never compared his misery to people working in diamond mines.
That wasn't very nice.
Now we have to deal with sarcasm in a thread that's supposed to be an intelligent conversation where we exchange ideas and enthusiastically but POLITELY disagree?
I sincerely do not think that's possible on BWW anymore.

Since I'm home sick today, I had the time to go back and read the last few pages of this thread I hadn't read yet.
First of all, I want to thank everyone who supported me and especially Magical MIss, who likes my posts!
My summation is this-there are some issues in life to which there are no answers, and I think this is one of them. Life isn't always fair, and as my mother keeps reminding me, "no one ever said life is easy." I'm sorry to sound so negative to those here who are still too young to agree! (yet, lol).
I don't think the situation we're discussing here occurs very often, but when it does, all possible solutions should be sought out (seat change, leave with tickets to another show, suck it up and be tolerant, etc.) but if there is no happy solution, then all I can say is-"that's the breaks!"
I know that in itself sounds unfair, but we've analyzed this to death, haven't we?
Thanks everyone, for an interesting thread.
oh-and lastly, those who don't know which comments are disturbing here are the ones for whom this thread might be helpful.

no, I dont think thats what made me smile, what makes me smile about elphaba is that it is always called as it is seen, something I appreciate. I have been on the other side of that, he has responded to my posts and told me to snap out of it etc because I was in a bit of a funk after realising that my performance dreams will probably never come true. That was the most depressing realisation Ive ever made in my entire life. Also one that in my oppinion was forced on me due to discrimination and unfairness. Then I read Elphabas post, laughed, realised I was being an idiot and went on with performing as best I could, and had fun all the while.
Hes not afraid to say what he means. I enjoy it. Sue me
And Jane, your welcome!

Well, I know which ones I found disturbing; I wanted to know which ones others thought were. I think it comes down to that some people are offended by a way of putting something that others aren't, or interpret one person's way of thinking as negative.
