Actually, in hindsight I hope Bernadette does Clowns. We don’t have a good quality recording of her singing the full song recently (decades ago she sung it with Sondheim on piano, but I much prefer her Trevor nunn interpretation). Pllleaaase.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Donna Murphy’s Blistering performance of “Could I Leave You” at his 80th birthday was one of the magical moments I’ve had seeing a performer connect with and deliver a song. Second only to her “Before the Parade Passes By” in Dolly. Jan Maxwell’s scorched earth interpretation was also powerful in a totally different way in the Follies broadway revival, but if she gets the chance to do it again, Murphy gives a masterclass while delivering it that every student of musical theatre should study and behold!
Even more talent has joined the streaming celebration!
“The freshly announced stars set to perform include Annaleigh Ashford, Laura Benanti, Melissa Errico, Beanie Feldstein, Josh Groban, Jake Gyllenhaal, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Kuhn, Linda Lavin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Platt, Randy Rainbow and Lea Salonga. In addition, there will be special appearances from Victor Garber, Joanna Gleason, Nathan Lane and Steven Spielberg.”

Can I send this ask?

Happening tonight! Excited, especially after watching the wonderful Met at Home gala yesterday. I hope the Sondheim celebration also runs 4 plus hours!!!

With the amazing lineup of stars announced for the Met gala, I knew going it that it was going to be a lot of fun. What surprised me was how incredibly moving a lot of it was. To see these superb artists--literally the greatest opera stars of our era -- scattered all over the world singing from their living rooms, kitchens, and dining rooms was such a poignant and powerful reminder of what extraordinary times we're living in. I teared up a number of times. Thats the arts, for you.
I was in tears throughout! Especially during the intermezzo of cavalleria rusticana and Rene’s Ave Maria from Otello. And of course Anna’s finale was just magic.
Attempting this on my TV but it’s a small block in the center without ability to expand at this point. Hope it opens up...otherwise iPad watching it is.

Broadcasting to my tv through the YouTube app on my phone.. seems to work best for me rather that using YouTube on roku. Plus I get to read all the constant comments on my phone from idiots clamoring for their favorite stars that haven't shown up yet :/
Wonder what the delay is? I surprised this couldn't get broadcasted on a TV station.
