Best news. I hope Bernadette will do something new, but I’m not holding my breath.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

If she whips out Not a Day Goes By, Children & Art, or Children Will Listen; I will be satisfied no matter what. She can do whatever she wants and I will be more than content.
It's always thrilling to hear them sing anything but I do wish we'd get something "new" from these legends. We've hear Audra's Glamorous Life, Patti's Ladies Who Lunch, Bernadette's "Not a Day Goes By" many times at while it's always wonderful, just think about Audra and Will (since they're together in quarantine) doing "Move On," Patti giving us "Send in the Clowns," and Bernadette's "Not While I'm Around."
However, given the circumstances and lack of prep time and not being in the same room as their music directors and vocal coaches I except we'll get a song they've done many times before.
Bernadette doing “not while I’m around” would be perfect.

The majority of them would always do the same thing anyway.. and they have nothing but time now.

Last time she sang it Patti's Send in the Clowns was abysmal, but that was over fifteen ago. It would be great to hear Streep sing it, unless she goes for something from Into the Woods and Bernadette gets her ALNM great song. Really curious about what Meryl will sing, maybe the full version of "She'll be back" or something she's never done before.
I hope they have better technology than the recent Rosie O'Donnell show. How difficult (pricey) is it to use whatever the late night talk shows have been using?
^ This. I was really concerned about the Global Citizen concert for the same reason. Mind you, those celebrities make a lot more money, but I’m still hopeful for good, even decent, sound quality.
Just imagine if Sondheim wrote speciality lyrics for Meryl and she did I'm Still Here like he did for Shirley McClaine (via Debbie Reynold's life) in Postcards from the Edge.
I think Send in the Clowns would be a really good choice for Meryl Streep since it's essentially written for a non-singer, and trying to do something like Last Midnight might just show off her weaknesses more in the face of all the other legends. It's about a month late so I had just about given up on a 90th birthday celebration, but I was so excited to see this announcement today!
I was wondering this as well. I can’t imagine she’ll sing Being Alive, at least when I saw it at the beginning of March, she clearly needed more time with it. But who knows, as someone else said earlier, it’s not like we all didn’t suddenly have A LOT more time on our hands than expected so 🤷🏽♂️
I think Aaron Tveit might sing Being Alive, since he already played Bobby and he's the most age-appropriate performer in the cast. Both Tveit and Lenk could sing one of Bobby's solos to show the character as played by a man and by a woman, or they could sing something together as a duet.
I’m gonna guess that Meryl Streep sings either Send In The Clowns or Children Will Listen Bernadette Peters either Send in The Clowns, Not awhile I’m Around (I know you all will think she’s too old but I would love to see her as Lovett) or Loosing My Mind Patti LuPone Ladies Who Lunch Aaron Tveit Being Alive or Something’s Coming/Somewhere Sutton Foster something from Into The Woods
and I know this is being put together quickly. But I would love to see even if it’s an edited version. But all of them from there homes finishing with Sunday
Sutton tends to sing Anyone Can Whistle a lot, so who knows!
I'm curious to hear what Donna will sing. Loving You is the obvious choice, but Could I Leave You? is also a valid alternative... the dream is to hear her sing something from Gypsy. Christine Baranski might reprise her role from Sweeney or Follies. Tbh I'd love to hear each of the ladies' rendition of Send in the Clowns, and I hope Bernadette will record it eventually, it would be sad not to have an officially recorded version of her transfixing rendition.
