The cast looks great, the costumes are definitely much better than the curtain call costumes of the Jets Girls

Thank God I'm re-gifting the tickets I was given a few days ago as a Christmas gift to a cousin I don't really like.
This is one production I'll try keeping away from as much as possible. It looks like the cast of IN THE HEIGHTS does WEST SIDE STORY.
Oy! What a disappointment in every way.

Brody, have you even SEEN the show other than these pictures?
Because if not, that's hilariously silly. Are we actually judging an entire, multi-million dollar production because of the (albeit bad) costumes they had during out-of-town PREVIEWS?

"Interesting to see Karen's hair down for AMERICA."
I liked what they did with Karen's hair. When she was "American" it was up but when she was "Spanish" it was down.

Posted: 12/23/08 at 4:05pmI would say Anita is still "Spanish" during "America".

Talentless or talented
Miscast or casting perfection:
Matt is a certifiable smokeshow
Josefina is also breathtaking.

Posted: 12/23/08 at 4:26pmThe costumes look like they are from J Crew or the West Side Story GAP ad.

Posted: 12/23/08 at 4:39pmJosefina Scaglione looks gorgeous, but does anyone else think that Maria's dress for the dance looks more like what you'd wear under a dress than a dress itself?

Looks like it, PJ. I don't see it in any of these shots, and it was in several last time.
I still don't like or "get" these costumes. They might as well be wearing hoop skirts or togas. They're so far off the period.

Have you noticed that they took out the balcony scene set with the zodiac from the pictures of the set designs?
Interesting.....
#19re: More Photos From West Side Story DC Production
Posted: 12/23/08 at 5:49pmok the zodiac was not in any of these scenes when i saw it, so it might still be in there? I saw it on the second night so, they could have, but I doubt it, these pictures are just from other scenes. And the zodiac is only in one scene I believe

Is it just me or Matt Cavenaugh looks "a little too old "for Josefina in this photo? I mean she looks like she's 16 or 17 yrs old... and he looks like 28 to 30 yrs old...Um...Probably it looks different when youre watching it in the theater, perhaps?!

Someone who saw it recently posted in another thread that the drop wasn't there anymore.
Its in the thread about replacing Matt and Cody on page three.

Posted: 12/23/08 at 7:57pmYah. Zodiac was gone as of last night. Though I overheard that it was still under discussion though it was Arthur who apparently actually nixed it (and sounded like the guys that were talking were the ones pushing for it (dont know who they were, they were at the back of the theatre during intermission by the board)).

Posted: 12/23/08 at 8:02pmWow! Arthur is actually making changes, good for him. He needs to work on these costumes now. And he cut the surtitles too? Updated On: 12/23/08 at 08:02 PM

Posted: 12/23/08 at 8:28pmYah, Surtitles were gone last night. I think it was a good decision. Less distraction (though again, I saw it enough times that I knew what they were talking about now so not sure how it seemed if you went in cold). They did provide a new leaflet in the playbill that included the English lyrics to I Feel Pretty and A Boy Like That.
