Honestly, if Laurents wants the drops and surtitles gone, they will be gone NO matter what.
Did you notice any changes to the costumes yet?
I'm glad the surtitles are gone. We didn't need them for Piazza.
so they put the lyrics to the original I feel Pretty and America in the programs? Or are they the english translations of the new Spanish lyrics?
Josefina Scaglione looks gorgeous, but does anyone else think that Maria's dress for the dance looks more like what you'd wear under a dress than a dress itself?
I do. It's pretty, but it does give that impression. When I saw the dress shop photo that's what I thought it was until I noticed the blue piping (probably remembering the way that scene was done in the movie).
Whatever the costumes are, they are not genuine 1950s. The dress Maria wears for 'One Hand, One Heart' is cute, but it needs a much fuller skirt to look authentic. I do hope they change the costumes before Broadway for their own sake.
Matt is a smoking hot, pumped and tone modern MAN. He is not at all believable as a 1950's teenage boy.
I always thought the point of Maria's gym dress was simplicity. Very white, very pure. While I do admit that still looks a little too much like a crinoline, I like the idea.

so is the safe to assume the Jets girls are common place whores? is there a back story? like the jets are short on change, because they bought t-shirts at banana republic instead of the Gap (because, let's face it, it's better quality), so they have the jets girls turn tricks to help the cash flow.....When I think of it like that, it totally works.
OT, but is there are a recording where Tony sings the high Bb in "Maria"?

"Thank God I'm re-gifting the tickets I was given a few days ago as a Christmas gift to a cousin I don't really like.
This is one production I'll try keeping away from as much as possible. It looks like the cast of IN THE HEIGHTS does WEST SIDE STORY.
Oy! What a disappointment in every way."
Is this another brilliant theatrical evaluation from BrodyFosse123 based on his NOT having seen the show?
Some of the Pictures look like the cast just walked in and performed in there street clothes.
I should hope not. Do you walk around the streets in skirts with slits up past your underwear hem?
Lets all pick the little details to death and hope it closes and then be shocked and disappointed when half of broadway is dark.
Can they fire the costume designers? I'm a little iffy on the overall design of the show (lighting, etc.) based on these photos. You get no feel for the time period whatsoever...it's this strange mishmash.
It's great to hear that Laurents is making changes, though. The ones so far sound like they're for the better. I wish I could see this!

Does it say in the script that Tony is a teenager?

Instead we should celebrate misguided choices?

In my opinion, this woman could very well save this show.
The show doesn't need to be "saved." It is a work in progress. Arthur already cut the surtitles and zodiac drop. I am sure next he will work on fixing the costumes, and hairstyles. And if Matt can improve his character, I would think the revival would be in pretty good shape.

The Anita dress that Rita Moreno wore in the film for America is iconic (I imagine Chita wore it in the original production though I'm not sure). I'm not a fan of that purple dress they put on Karen Olivo.
Not a fan of Olivo's curly hair either, I liked it better when it was straightened for IN THE HEIGHTS. Love her to death though, can't wait to see her.
Wish they would have some of the vocals on the website instead of just the clips of the instrumentals.
ray, she did indeed.

Karen is good only because the role of Anita is so good. But she lacks fire in the choreography.
So there are no surtitles now, but entire scenes still in Spanish?
Oy. I think Arthur is fixing the wrong things.
Most said the surtitles were very distracting. Audiences were fine with PIAZZA, they will be fine with WSS. Getting rid of the zodiac drop and the surtitles is a step in the right direction.
