Saw a Sweaty Oracle post suggesting that Les Mis and Phantom could be next, which seems dumber than usual given the Radio City and Masquerade runs respectively, but I'm wondering if more are actually on the way given Beetlejuice and Mamma Mia! seem to be selling well and costing the producers verrrrry little.
It seems like a runaround for producers who don’t want to pay production contract salaries, which is a contentious issue in current Equity negotiations.
I hope Equity is paying attention to this loophole. In the words of Alyssa Edward’s, “I smell a stunt.”

If a tour comes to Broadway doesn't the company still pay the per diems for everyone's meals and housing? I imagine that must cost a lot for an NYC tour stop.
I don’t necessarily have an issue with it, but I do think they should be ineligible for Tony awards. Especially if they’re on touring contracts.

I don’t think they are required to do so.
They aren’t on production contracts but I do believe they’re getting paid the same as a production contract. Some of the tiers have overages too. But I feel like that would be unlikely for Broadway.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is also on the way to New York.

This is gonna look so sad on a Broadway stage.

Not exactly. They are required to pay for either housing or offer a per diem...for the first 4 weeks of the 'tour stop'. They are not required to pay anything beyond that 4 week mark.
The pay bumps up to Level One for these NYC stops. It's about a hundred less that current (expired) Production Contract minimums. So the chorus makes out decently. But the lead whose agent fought valiantly to get 2800/wk when the contract was signed, may not see any pay bump for the NY run.
I would not be surprised to see the current Sound of Music tour come in to Broadway.

Is it the hot Beast version because that is some community center level garbage.
