Danny Burstein (who should have won two Tonys by now) is not winning a Tony for singing Hey Ya in a inane and mindless show. Karen will not be winning her second Tony for singing Katy Perry as a ballad.

Exactly. Scott Rudin had three play revivals (BLACKBIRD, THE CRUCIBLE, and A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE) nominated against each other in 2016. He may not have been the lead producer on all, but still."
He was the lead producer on all three! That year the 5 nominated revivals were split between 2 producers (Rudin's three + Roundabout's Long Day's Journey and Noises Off). Plenty of other producers have competed against themselves for awards all the way back to the David Merrick years.

I wouldn't count Burstein out. He is truly wonderful in this show, and his star power is more than obvious.

Side note, do we think beetlejuice will open this season--and moulin rouge next--so alex timbers doesn't compete with himself for best director? I know Global creatures wants kong and moulin rouge in seperate seasons---but then we have Timber on a whole new project.

The website always said it was coming to broadway in Summer 2019, if I recall correctly. If they truly are doing a workshop, and trying to stick to opening in the summer, maybe they’d do a spring workshop and summer broadway opening?

also, part of me feels like theres gonna be a new cast. Almost none of the cast members have posted about the broadway move, and the Moulin rouge! Instagram deleted every picture excepet the announcement. It makes sense with a workshop, probally next fall with a spring 2020 opening. Thats enough time for a Kinky Boots closing.

So many cast members posted on Instagram about next summer. Using hashtags see you next summer and see you in 9 months. I don’t see the cast changing at all.

The show closed on Sunday.
The cast won't be working with each other until the next time they're in a rehearsal room for the show, which will be a while.
They will miss each other.

Contracts and discussion of them has likely not even happened yet. And even if they did, about a million things could happen that could prevent this show from happening, or from any actor not being able able or interested in continuing.
They aren't going to see each other for possibly 9 months or more-- after spending the last 3 months falling in love and other emotional things. Of course they are going to say goodbye to each other. College students say goodbye in June and they are going to apart for 2 and half months! Heck, I say goodbye to my colleagues for the summer.

In terms of spectacle, this is no where NEAR the level of intricacy of Harry Potter. If anything, it's more of a "Wicked" or "SpongeBob"; extravagant, but not impossible. For touring, I'd see them making the boxes/ proscenium inset from the actual theatre's proscenium and just taking out the two ramps that come in/ out of the audience.

I agree. I dont think it will be that difficult to tour. Maybe the windmill and elephant dont get to see the country, but the rest? Not restrictive.

the talk around the water cooler is that it will open at the Broadway Theater when King Kong closes. It's the same production company as the Moulin Rouge. From what insiders are saying, they don't have much faith in King Kong and are pretty sure its just going to be a loss. If you've noticed no one is talking about king kong, their ad campaign is next to nill. I'm not saying I know this for sure, but i'm willing to bet Moulin Rouge opens at the Broadway in the late Spring right before Tony Nom cut off.

Respectfully, gotta come to rjm516's defense here. When only "one person" crows about a bootleg you know thousands have also watched same. It is never just one person listening. A bootlegger takes pride in sharing the stolen property with others. And then, insult meets injury when a listener not only has the frickin' balls to reference the stolen recording but feels the need to rate the performances contained on same! Entitlement is an understatement.
I don't want to speak for rjm516 but I don't think he/she is just referring to the "one person" in this thread - he/she, I believe, is referencing the problem at large: bootlegs are often referred to on these boards Any comments or, good Lord, critiques based on listening to same should be deleted by moderator.
I had to throw some shade on another proud bootleg aficionado (and performance critic) on the MR preview thread (his/hers defense was he was down on his luck financially after years of enjoying theater and couldn't afford it to see it -hey go steal some stuff from Target and when caught see how that excuse goes over). Don't remember if it is the same perpetrator on this thread - but if it is - I'm happy to help shame them all over again.
The OBCR will be out within the next year and a half of so (assuming a Fall 2019 Broadway start) at reasonable cost -Not to mention that the local library will have the real recording at some point - for free-- if you can't buy a ticket or a download or a CD. Lotteries did exist in Boston and lotteries will exist in NY at reasonable cost. Oh but I guess paying for something that others have labored on is for peons.
Again, respectfully, perhaps when your talent is stolen by those who want to enjoy your blood, sweat and tears for free you will be a tad less flip and dismissive of rjm516's dismay. Would you want your work to be stolen by even just one person, have people be completely indifferent to the theft and dissect your stolen work?
As I said on the other thread, for people who profess to love theater to condone (by silence or indifference or mockery) ripping off other artists' work is unconscionable-even by ONE PERSON. Will never understand this nor the sister scourge --stage door entitlement. R-E-S-P-E-C-T, people.

If they have such little faith in the show, why would they bring it to Broadway? What type of producers or investors think "Let's adapt and get the rights for a popular movie, make a production of it, workshop and try it, move it to Broadway, let it flop and sink, then bring an amazing show to the same theatre and maybe it'll succeed!" Not very good business.

I don't actually disagree with anything you say and, personally, abhor bootlegs. MY point is, that on THIS thread, his chastising "many" on a thread where one was even mentioning it. If he wants to rant, start a different thread on it. I don't bootleg, I don't listen to or watch bootlegs - I don't need the lecture. IF perhaps people were coming to that poster's defense or also chiming in to what they say on a bootleg - fine. Take the individual to task.

Dear Alanaaaa, yes it happens all the time. The money was spent....30 million, and it was spent in all the wrong ways. the only thing left is to try to get it to bway to see if they can make any money on it. Broadway is one of the riskiest businesses in the entertainment world. Do you see any press? I don't. their advertising is next to 0. they only have an advance of about 3 million with form what i hear a crazy high weekly running cost. their only option was to come to broadway.

Did anyone else get an email message from Moulin Rouge Musical with a giant red exclamation mark with BROADWAY at the bottom in caps, and the words "Why else live...if not for love." Clicking on the giant visual takes me to the website with a box to "sign up and stay tuned" by adding my email address, but then I enter my email address and it says I am already on the list.
