I was reading about Michael Bennett's SCANDAL last night. The conception and subsequent workshops have such a fascinating story I wish a film would be made. Maybe I should take a stab at the screenplay? I mean Michael was right, how do you sell an audience on a musical about sexual freedom when the director is sick as a result of being diagnosed with AIDS?
Of course, there is Steinman's Batman, but we've talked about that recently enough.

There was one called RIVIERA RENDEZVOUS that had casting notices on a regular basis in Variety back in about 1977.
Then, nothing.
Wonder who the creators were?

THE MAMBO KINGS. Artwork was already up at the Broadway Theatre in NYC. The show closed quickly out-of-town.

Wasn't there supposed to be a musical version of Here Comes Mr. Jordan?

I read in Time Magazine in 2005 that there was something in the works called Monica The Musical. It featured Frenchie Davis as Clinton's Secretary. Yes, it was a musical about that Monica that also had a Hillary-Reno affair. This definitely felt like it belonged in the crazy ideas for a musical thread.
Here's the website for the show with much press before the NYMF performance but absolutely nothing afterward.

Did it even go through with its date? Did it even have any ambition to move beyond the NYMF?

Remember when Donald Trump was doing all sorts of stuff right after the first season of The Apprentice started because it was a breakout hit and he announced that they were developing The Apprentice: The Musical? Nothing ever happened there, did it?

Posted: 12/22/09 at 2:15amLizzie, I was going to put Ever After too, but I think it's still being aimed for Broadway according to Marcy Heisler. I hope it does make it because I love the movie and I've heard three songs from it, and they are simply beautiful. I've been listening to them non-stop for about a month or two.

Posted: 12/22/09 at 9:29amSPIDER-MAN hasn't vanished so quickly... I feel like it's been on the radar forever... even if it never happens, at this point, people will feel like it did happen just because of all the hullabaloo about it

I attended the Urinetown prequel, Yeast Nation, at the Chicago premiere a few months ago. It's still in the works.
These are a few I remember being announced that have yet to surface:
Broom Hilda
Betty Boop
A Little Princess
Leap of Faith
Pure Country
