As much as I liked Fosse, it had no story .It was a dance piece
Brilliant but a dance piece
My Favorite Year got a critical drubbing (what else is new). I went to see it in a monsoon. I enjoyed it although the lyrics in one song were wrong. In Larger Than Life, the term "porcelin angels " is used. There were no such thing as porcelin angels in pictures palaces. They were all made of plaster.
Getting back to the subject, I vote for My Favorite Year . It was a show that deserved better.

MY FAVORITE YEAR
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Fosse was the worst experience I've ever had in a theater... and I like Bob Fosse's choreography.

How can you try to even make any comparison between a dance revue (with no plot) over a book musical? You just can't... and I won't.
Though I've been a huge enormous fan of Bob Fosse's work since childhood (mom was a former Fosse dancer -- circa 1964-74), I wasn't all too pleased with FOSSE. No narrative, no costumes, no Gwen Verdon numbers, it goes on. Being friends with numerous cast members who were with the show since conception, I wasn't alone on my assessment of the show. Every single one of the original cast had quite a bit of a beef about the show and what really could have been. An enormous amount of material was considered, but eventually not used. Most feel these were better than what Broadway audiences saw. I still think a JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY-type show would have been a dream, with full recreations of each show's original costume, set and lighting design and WITH a narrator prepping the dance number about to take place, etc. Audiences at FOSSE who weren't familiar with Bob Fosse's work had NO idea what year or from what show the number they were watching on stage came from. Yes, it was listed in the Playbill, but most read it after the fact, and not remembering the dance, etc. At least in the subpar abridged DVD incarnation of the show (featuring the final Broadway cast), they included onscreen captions stating what show the number you were watching came from, etc.
Oh, the show that COULD have been.

The only thing I liked about Fosse was the final number...then leaving the theater after what felt like a millenium. Time I shall never recover.

I can't vote b/c I don't know MFY at all. But so many people are voting for it that I need to go and get ahold of it now! Thanks for the tip! :)
