Jamie Foxx should get a razzie for this, it really was jebus awful
Looks like a few movies were released earlier than expected.

Diaz will surly be nominated for a Razzie because she was in this (will be critically panned) and two other critically panned films this year with The Other Woman and Sex Tape. She deserves to win because she honestly gives one of the worst performances ever here.
How's Bobby Cannavale? Does he play Rooster? Who plays Lily St. Regis?
I got my hands on a screener, but had No desire to watch it expect for Cameron's scenes to see if she was as bad as i thought she would be- i was right. Just plain awful.
So, Jordan and others who've seen this, is the "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" scene indicative of the rest of the film?
I completely agree re: Rose Byrne. She was charming, enchanting, classy - just wonderful all around in a timeless-Audrey Hepburn kind of way. So glad her singing talents were on display here. She worked so well and was the highlight of the picture for me.
Bobby Cannavale is Rooster's equivalent. He was terrible in his overacting. Not sure if that is his fault or the encouraged direction.
Jamie Foxx was ok. I did not like the "wink-wink-I'm-wearing-a-wig" homage...thing. The Purell obsession was too much for me. Again, I don't think that's his fault. I liked that Warbucks was updated to Stacks. That was smart.
Q';alskdvljkasnlkjnbazane was ok, as well. I like how she gave all of the candy from the car to her friends. I enjoyed her earnestness. She was sweet.
That Russian social worker with her slapstick gags - reactions, stealing, selfies - it was too much for my taste, as well.
The Ashton Kutcher-Mila Kunis cameo - were they doing Will Smith a solid? It was unnecessary and took up singing time.
Cameron Diaz - bless her heart. She has absolutely beautiful eyes, though. Stunning.
So much of the picture did not work - some things were updated and some things were forcibly left intact - i.e: why would the girls be using mops and buckets and tons of water in that t-niny room? They updated the beat; why not update to Swiffers and Clorox wipes or something?
I hope Rose Byrne's work here gets her some consideration for future musical work.
I'm happy to read all the positive reviews concerning Rose Byrne's performance in this because I am a fan of her work and she is one of the only reasons I would even consider going to see this film.

Q';alskdvljkasnlkjnbazane? Really?
Melissa25, Bobby played Will Stacks's campaign manager and was similar to Rooster but he had no relation to Miss Hannigan. There was no Lily St. Regis. There is a couple who played Annie's "parents," and Tracie Thoms was the mom.
HorseTears, although "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" was one of my favorite scenes, I do think it wasn't executed well. The best way to watch this movie is to go in with an open mind and without expectations of greatness or whatever. If you watch it knowing you're going to hate it already, then all you will see are the faults. I went in with an open mind and I enjoyed it. I was entertained, and in the end that's what movies are here to do. It's a film made for kids and kids at heart.
I'm not going to lie -- there were moments when I was like "Ugh Jamie Foxx is better than this!"
Jesus Christ that clip was painful. I thought that I would watch this movie to make fun of it but... wow. I'm not even sure if I could put myself through that.

Overall, I thought it was...interesting. Nothing like I was expecting.
The highlight was definitely Rose Bryne. She was elegant and perfect and definitely seemed like the perfect Grace. Diaz felt so out of place. They really needed a comedic actress for the role. I know that Diaz does do comedy, but I've never really considered her a "comedian" if that makes sense? I felt her version of Hannigan was very cheap. Everytime she came on screen I kept whispering to myself how much I wish Sandra Bullock had done the role.
I thought they updated the location/characters well...I just think it all felt very rushed and messy. It started off great, but slowly crumbled upon Diaz's entrance. I feel as if they didn't really put much thought or effort into the film. And the music....such a disappointment. Even when you don't compare it to the original soundtrack, it just sounds pretty bad. Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow were the only two I enjoyed. I was at a screening and heard more than once groups of people say it was difficult to hear the singers over the music.
Ideally, it could've been great. But it was just average. There were some pretty funny moments in it though so I'll give it a 5/10.

After watching it at a friend's house who had the leaked version.... It was average at most.
Wallis, Foxx, and Bryne did really good despite the awful execution of the music which I wished was half updated and half traditional. Poor Cameron Diaz being so horrifically miscast in this movie, she did absolutely nothing to elevate her redundantly predictable material; it's hard to believe that she auditioned to play Stephanie in NINE but thankfully Kate Hudson got it. I still wish to this very day that Hudson or Sandra Bullock got the role instead of Diaz (But she is no where near Gerard Butler bad). Do I have to mention how much Bobby Cannavale was over-the-top in this? No? Good.
The technical side of the film (cinematography, choreography, etc) was fine, but nothing to seriously write home about. Plus the ending could've been more but whatever.
In the end, it's not the worst musical film I've ever saw but ultimately it will become a forgettable film while INTO THE WOODS would be the remembered.
This is a 5.5 out of 10 film for me, quite regrettable actually.

"I might see this eventually but I'll be seeing BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES and INTO THE WOODS instead."
Up top, bro!

Okay...
I, uh, just saw a clip of her singing and leaping about to what used to be a pleasant song called "I Think I'm Gonna Like it Here", and I have one question-- not just about the number, but about the film: Why? Just why?
And why the f*ck do they have to sound like robots when they sing?

HorseTears, I don't know what you meant by "okay..." but it is possible to like something even if it's bad. Even though "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" was not the greatest, it did put a smile on my face.
You know, one positive thing about all this is that with two big movie musicals opening on Christmas - this and Into the Woods - some journalists will undoubtedly link the two together in either reviews, holiday movie previews or end-of-year recaps. And, well, frankly, how couldn't ITW come out looking like a comparative masterpiece?
The musical numbers in this came across as not being natural , it seemed over rehearsed, the numbers stopped the show dead and what was already a dull film become even more so.

I kinda really wanna see it now.
No Academy screeners were sent out for this film. Anyone who's seen it is someone who illegally downloaded the copy that leaked online. And the movie is TERRIBLE. The horrific autotune, the terrible Diaz, charmless and smug Wallis (whose sole direction seems to have been "Smile!!!"), jokes that are not funny, shots that frequently don't match (and during the finale/credits, they dubbed over entirely different lyrics for a few lines without bothering to match the mouths with the dialogue). Just awful. Your bar must be pretty low if you liked this trash.
In more positive news, "Into the Woods" is pretty good.

Lovely, so we are reading a bunch of reviews from an illegal download. I do believe that some traditional screenings are coming up.

Aw. I hope that's not true. Don't want the OP to have been lying to us. Sigh.

Historically, once they do send out Academy screeners, they tend to leak online pretty quickly, though, which people then download illegally. So I'm not sure what nuance you're going for here.
The leaked version claim to have an invisible unique watermark which they can use to trace it to a specific individual, so we'll see if that is true or not. I know in the past I did see screeners where they encoded the person's name right onto the video, so the online hacks just removed that square from the movie entirely. Invisible watermarking is possible, but so is the option to say it has one when it really doesn't, since it would mean making a unique copy for each person getting one.

I would have loved to see Kate Hudson as Ms.Hannigan. I'll probably catch the movie when it comes on Netflix.
