The building ending had Mark's film being projected on the wall of the apartment and then it grew to being projected on the sides of buildings throughout the city as the song built. Thought it was a nice homage to the stage production as various things are projected onto the back walls, not to mention, like I said, suggested that these were just a few of the many similar stories that go on like it. Oh well. What is in the film works well enough though--basically the film projected on the wall of the apartment, basically a montage of Mark's footage of the characters being their family. Some of the shots are from scenes in the film, others aren't.
By the way, I am a Renthead, but I only liked the film; didn't love.

Oh my God, Lea, I'm going to cry from being so proud of Adam when I see this. I'm such a loser, but I really will. I mean, I'm going to cry through the movie no matter what, but.... oh, he's going to be so good! I just know he's going to tear my heart into tiny little pieces and that I'm going to love every minute of it. Those eight years of thinking sound like they did him damned good! He's come really far, IMO, even before the movie. This is going to be unbelieeeevable.
I keep telling myself not to read reviews, and I do it anyway.
Down to 20... I can't go until the evening of the 23rd, though. I have a plane to catch during the day.

As far as people who aren't Rentheads are concerned, I just spoke an hour ago to a 30-something friend in LA who's in the film industry, has never seen the stage version of Rent or listened to the cast album (but has seen other film and stage musicals). He just saw a screening. His verdict "HORRIBLE!" That's a direct quote. One man's opinion............

Performances are all wonderful. I'm a huge Adam fan (just a few notches below Emcee, you dear little Adamaniac you, yes, you are going to weep when you see him, bring Kleenex) and I HATE the hair, but you know, he rocks, and yes, his acting has come a LOOOONG way from SLC Punk. Idina is so beautiful and we all know she sings like an angel, and as LeaGirl pointed out she has real screen charisma, I totally see a future for her in film or tv. Tracie is adorable and girlfriend has some serious ass pipes. Anthony's wonderful, he's such a solid actor, and his La Vie Boheme has so much joy, like he's thinking "All right, my turn to rock the house!" Wilson manages to make Angel lovable without being cloying. As I said, for me it's all about Jesse. He owned it, and my fave part of the movie has to be the I'll Cover You Reprise and Santa Fe, which is hilarious cause I can't stand that song cause the lyrics are so inane. I had to rush out so don't remember if Love Heals played-sorry!
Greekmusicalfan, i just got major chills reading about that building thing. that sounded absolutely AMAZING!!!!! but i still have faith that the ending in the movie will be just as good!!
question: how much tissue should an emotional RENThead bring to this movie?

I think I may as well just shove an entire box into my backpack. You know, just to be sure I'm equipped. When I saw that he was the first image in the original trailer, I sobbed. I totally lose.
SLC Punk! is one of the funniest things I have EVER witnessed. But, I digress.
Yankees, I Know, when I read it and every time I imagined it, it really gave me goosebumps ! But I too, have faith that they chose what's best for the movie. Updated On: 11/2/05 at 07:03 PM
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
Is anyone ELSE at all concerned that it might be too faithful? One of the things I enjoyed about Chicago was that they made it work as a movie, rather than try to stick the stage version onto the screen.
I mean, there were a ton of homages, and obviously it was pretty close, but they weren't afraid to change things around, add in new stuff, take out whatever didn't work, and so forth.
I'm afraid that Rent will be incredibly faithful, and that while, as a Rent fan, I will probably enjoy it, I will realize that doesn't work as a movie if you just stick it up there without really adapting it.
Not really. From everything that I've been told, the changes sound like they were made appropriately, and that things that worked were kept -- if they didn't work, they were changed to work better on film. In other words, to me, it doesn't sound like things that don't work on film were kept as is just for the sake of wanting to be faithful. I think it'll establish itself as its own piece, in a good way. It definitely sounds like its been suitably adapted, and I trust my source.
I mean, Christmas Bells is arguably the most theatrical number in the show, and for that reason, it's gone. But those stories that intertwine in Christmas Bells are told in other ways -- ways that you can do on film, but not on stage. Just one example, I'm sure.
No, I'm not worried that it will be too faithful. I think what people mean when they say it's "faithful" is faithful to what the essence of Rent is. Faithful to what it stands for, it's message, it's roots..not faithful to the actual staging. Of course things were taken out, put in, altered, tweaked, etc to make it work in the new medium.
I just saw the TV spot for the second time. It's funny. I usually just leave my TV on in the background, and pay it little mind. Yesterday, I heard Finale B. Today, I heard Anthony's voice. I'll sort of stop what I'm doing, do a complete double-take and go "wait, I know this." And then I'll realize. That's Rent. On my TV. It's the strangest feeling. It's almost not real yet.
I have been waiting for this movie to come out for so long, I got my costume ready and everything. Its gonna mean so much to me when it comes out! Im goin crazy!! haha!
