I may be interpreting that wrong, but I'm not asking for sympathy, nor did I expect it. I just thought it was an interesting, and certainly bizarre, event. I know I won't be keeping my cell out any time soon!
I still feel doubtful about the story. The safeguard let you confront to the actors? Come on.

Believe me, Sanda, I'm still amazed about it. Why bring a suspected bootlegger inside to talk to the actors, up close and personal? It could easily have been taken care of outside.
And for the disbelievers, I'm not making it up. I can't make up a story like that if I tried.

I believe you Yankeefan. You obviously didn't mean any harm and you sound like a sincere person. Sorry we're jumping all over you.
I am however, a Met fan! May the best team win tonight!

Thank you, Rose. And I'm a Met Fan, too. That was taken when I made the user name. May the METS win tonight!
I think it's totally legit and your right to keep your cell phone in your lap. It is not a concern of the actors what is in your lap; there is no restriction against phones in your lap. It was their mistake if the actor thought that was a camera.
You certainly underwent an interesting situation; glad to know at least you got to meet David Schwimmer.
on the subject of performers getting distracted both my mother and i have been the cause of this. My mom caused an ill timed delay during thoroughly modern millie, she somehow caught kevin early (graydon)'s eye right when he made his first appearance (the line about how fast millie got there) and he stared off at her, keep in mind she wasn't doing anything save for smiling about 5 seconds in, and then all of a sudden went "oh!" and started the scene. mine was at the wicked tour wherein i have surmised i look like someone associated with the company since half the chorus was looking at me, and nudging one another to do so. So its entirely possible for the randomest things to veer an actor off course
If your phone was off, then how could you check the time? One's phone has to be ON in order to see the time. And if you press a button to check the time, the phone lights up. If even for a split second, it's rude and inconsiderate.
Lights are distracting to both the audience and the actors. Whether you thought it was hidden or not, or whether you were completely wrongly accused - you still had your cell phone out, which it's 100% unnecessary. You're a female, correct? PUT IT ON YOUR BAG. Unless your bag has holes in it, you're not going to loose it. First you said you checked the time during the last scene when Ivanek wasn't on stage, then you said you checked the time during the scene change. Which is it?
And you e-mailed Reidel saying that you were accused of bootlegging a show...and you got taken backstage...treated nicely by Schwimmer...and had a strange encounter with Ivanek.
Um. I'm just going to stop there before I say something that will forever alter the way we communicate with each other.

I think it was a guy, but I think the same way you do. I usually tend to stop myself before saying something that will affect the way I see a poster again
This thread is ALMOST as ridiculous as my "RENT with a homophobe" thread. And that's saying a LOT.

Munk, I didn't email Riedel to bash the actors. I emailed him to let him know what the security team is doing. David Schwimmer, I would have figured, would have been like Julia Roberts, with a bodyguard 24/7. Never did I expect (or want) to be brought backstage to meet and talk to him. I would have been happy with an autograph.
The security guard, a man in a suit and tie, brought a suspected bootlegger backstage to talk to the actors, without knowing who I am, where I'm from, or what I was capable of doing. Okay, the guy took my cell phone and digital camera. Not only did he promptly give the cell back as soon as we got inside, he didn't even check the camera. For all they knew, I could have pulled out a knife or the like and held everyone hostage. I thought I was on Punked or Canded Camera.
It seemed to me that they were more concerned about a suspected video recording of the show than the safety of the actors (even though I'm 100% harmless). That's why I emailed Riedel. The actors did an excellent job and didn't deserve to have the show close so soon, no matter how good or bad it was. I have the utmost respect for all of them.

oh God do I remember that one. Nothing for me can beat the Michael Arden in new commercial thread or one of the threads Chica made regarding who was innocent, if anyone, in Sweeney
Where did you have the camera throughout the show? Weren't you afraid of losing that??
You could always just stick your cellphone up between your thighs for some added pleasure during the show. YOu'd never lose it that way.

Mabel, the camera was at the bottom of a shopping bag I was carrying.
Munk, all I did was post about an incident that happened to me. I'm not asking for sympathy, I'm not asking for applause. I admitted that I'm as much in the wrong as the security guard is. Is the thread innaine? Sure. Am I embarrassed about the incident? Yeah. If I could turn back time, would I put my phone away? Definately. Must you continue the negativity? If you don't like what I have to say, don't continue to post.

This thread is insane :) I'm just curious (not attacking you) - you said Ivanek couldn't have picked you out of a lineup, and yet he came downstairs, saw you, and instantly recognized you. If he couldn't pick you out of a lineup, he wouldn't have said anything and may have assumed you were a guest backstage. I don't know, I wasn't there, but whatever - at least you know now not to keep the phone out because you might be kidnapped by the security guard of another theatre :)
Also, I would agree with the others who are saying Mr. Ivanek is definitely not uptight. He's a very nice and appreciative man.
this thread is mentioned and linked on GAWKER. i'm so proud, i'm kvelling.

One side of a story, and even at that it doesn't look favorable for the Yank.

Eh, it happens. I've been so busy these past few days that I had all but forgotten about it.
Favorable or not, it happened, and I was pleased with the outcome.
Shoot me.

What is it with people and cell phones? Unless you're one of those people who has to be the first one to report on a new show during intermission, why take a cell phone into the auditorium/theatre? You can certainly check it. If you're afraid of losing it, get a fanny pack and put the phone in the pack. What is the urgency in having a cell phone while watching a Broadway show? I don't get it.
I was stunned during my trip two weeks ago that I managed to see all the shows with no cell phones going off.

What should you have done?
Try practicing some theater etiquette for starters, then follow it with keeping insipid emails to yourself.
Twirling a cell phone and checking the time DURING a performance...I'd like to have made you cry!
And how exactly did security know of your camera if it was in fact in the bottom of your bag? (The bag in which you felt no need to safely and securely store the cell phone.) No need to answer, your replies only further deepens your grave's depth.

That's a ridiculous story- and FYI- if they didn't say anything to you while you were in the theater- they had no right to bring you back in and look at your phone and the bag- especially when they were wrong- I smell a law suit and free theater tickets to whatever plays at that theater in the future!

I wouldn't be so quick to think them wrong. Here again, only one side of a story presented.
Yank, have you or an alternate persona, ever been accused of being a bootlegger before?
What are your thoughts on non-students obtaining student rush tickets? Am I mistaken or have you, or an alternate persona, voiced a negative opinion of Marisa Tomei?
