And isn't Hudson one of the most prominent Black women in the industry that consistently financially supports new musical productions on Broadway? Her presence is very significant, even if it's "marketing" or "symbolic."
I see she’s taking the cheater’s way to another possible Tony.
Sweets, that is how you play the game and how you get things done. If the musical does win a Tony Award for Best Musical then she is fully entitled to her Tony Award. Wise folks achieve things by using every card they're given. Only the losers play it safe and worry about what others will think or say. Streisand got her EGOT status with an honorary Tony Award - her Tony Award wasn't for any acting category.
As we all know, Broadway producers are exceedingly white. I'm lukewarm on Jennifer Hudson as a performer, but I'm all for seeing a prominent Black woman join the ranks of producers. The more diverse the producing teams, the more diverse projects we'll see onstage. I'm not just talking racially diverse, but more varied and interesting shows in general.

Whether she's in it for the Tony or not, who cares?? She's using her name to support theater. And she's a WOC which makes it even better. Jennifer Hudson could produce as many shows as she wants.

Once. She's only done it once before. And unless I'm mistaken, her name made no difference at all for A Strange Loop.
Back in the day people did it before, but for example with Whoopi, I didn't even know she was a producer until it won Best Musical.

I guess you can now kind of say twice. She joined as a producer of the show's run in London. While a lot of the producer's names may not have made "a difference", a lot were from different areas of entertainment, with followings. I didn't follow them all to see if they were promoting the show but I do know that Jennifer had Michael on her show at one point during the run.
Any guesses on whether this will be in a shubert, Nederlander, or jujamcyn house? Do the producers have a relationship with either org? I know they previously had a development deal with the shuberts but it was a while ago.
"The original series is now streaming on Peacock!"
That would be fun to watch again. Looking back, the cast of the show was great. I think most people and critics were happy with the music from "Bombshell". I personally liked most of the music from "Hit List" but not sure other viewers of the show and critics liked it. The main problem IMO they had too many story lines. Show did not need Karen's idiot boyfriend and character like Ellis. I really did not care about Julia's home life and eventually her affair. Best moments of the show were when Ivy and Karen actually got along.
It will be interesting to see how the Broadway show turns out, hope it is successful.
