I still think John Travolta was horribly miscast! I think the rest are great BUT him. I hope he does not ruin it.
Michelle Pfeiffer is making my mouth water!
That woman has kept herself in such great shape. She's still a knockout!
What I don't understand is why the producers feel the need to always cast a man in drag as the mom just because Divine played the part originally. I'm not sold Travolta as "Edna". I think the whole premise of having a man play the part is ridiculous.

NiteOwl, the joke got sooo old in "Timeless to Me" IMO.
NiteOwl, that is the entire show. It's the whole concept. To use a man in the Edna role is not a gimmick. It IS Hairspray. How on earth can you suggest a woman play the part? Perhaps you don't fully understand the creator of the movie and his history with the original star, Divine. The original movie was built around him (as were all Water's films). Trying to imagine the original movie with anyone other than Divine is just.....
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!
The head explodes......
It's about acceptance...
Be it the 'fat' girl getting the 'hunk'
Or the dreams of a 'guy in a dress' coming true...
That's the bottom line.
I was not particularly excited for this film before hand but I will say that those production photos make me anticipate it a lot more! The whole cast looks great; I especially like Christopher Walken's costume!
Cheers,
Christopher
yea and black pplz 2
Is it just me but is Queen Latifah slimmed up alot?
Queen is looking skinny. I was surprised. But she does look gorgeous. I'm very excited about this film.
I tend to agree... Travolta is a mistake but I guess an inevitable one... they HAD to have one nig name that the average joe was going to recognize. The pics are great though... It'll be fun to see Allison Janney in a comedy again, Queen is going to be fantastic as always and Michelle looks well... positively scrumptious! Not sure about Brittany Snow though... we'll see.

Can't they release this film early, like say...next week! July is way too far away!
Queen Latifa looks like a big lesbian... Her wig and dress are awful. Brown?? In a movie full of pastel??
I like the pictures of Brittany as Amber.
And that picture of Amanda tied up is hysterical.
Did you notice in the Nicest Kids In Town shot w/ Brittany and James, Curtis Holbrook of All Shook Up is in the frame. First glimpse of him.
Michelle looks HOT.
man.
I agree that Queen Latifah looks amazing. I myself don't think that John Travolta was the right choice for Edna. It just doesnt look right. Something is missing. Where's Harvey when we need him???
We needed Harvey onstage. The movies call for a subtler performance. Even if you watch the original movie, Divine was a pretty good film actor (as memory serves me). Harvey - in all the good ways and none of the bad - in this role would have been like Zero Mostel visa vis the "Fiddler" movie. Although it's a shame he didn't get the part, my memories of him onstage were just a little too big for the movie screen. (I'm being kind. I hear, toward the end, he was impossible onstage, much like Danny Kaye with the scenestealing, gnarling and trying to break the other actors up). Now Harvey would be a consumate actor and try to dial the role down and we all would have felt he'd been neutered, so perhaps it was a good idea to recast.
Travolta comes to any film with an impressive box of acting tools. I would not count him out until we have seen some extended scenes, not just static photos.
On another matter, the color pallette of this film is ABSOLUTELY authentic, sort of muted turquioses and browns and steel blues. As a kid, growing up in that period of frosted plexi-glass and formica, it really brings back memories.
When my folks down-sized after I moved out, they threw out all the ameoba-shaped coffee tables and stuff. Do you have any idea how much that stuff is worth in old furnature stores today? Who knew?
I agree that these pix make me a little more excited about seeing this. Was kinda hesitant, but am really looking forward to it.
I pray the same thing happens when hopefully-reassuring Sweeney pix start leaking out, 4-6 months down the road from now...
These are so amazing to me, because it really looks like a true mixture of the John Water classic and the show! Oh.... is it july yet?
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu
Did they post these after I posted them here? LOL
