Well, the tour cast members who are being sidelined are still going to get paid. It's not like they are going to be in a position where they're loosing money. For example, Billy Porter is from Pittsburgh. When the Kinky Boots tour played in Pittsburgh, Porter played Lola for that stop on tour. However, the main person playing Lola (who's name currently escapes me now,) still got paid as if they were performing even though they didn't.

I don't remember his name either, but yes, Porter and the tour Lola essentially switched places for a week. He performed on Broadway while Porter jumped in to the tour.

This has nothing to do with She Loves Me, they've been planning this before that happened.

You must be awfully familiar with DTP payroll and the filming contracts to be able to make that statement. 

And regardless of money (which, BTW, they would be missing out on the media buyouts, etc.) it's still disappointing to those being replaced.

Disney is replacing two people in the cast (or maybe more) for a very limited number of performances. It's very unlikely that at the time these performers signed their contracts the filming was planned or even in the planning stage. As such, there is most likely no rider or clause that excludes these performers from performing on the dates of the filmed performances. Therefore, Disney is required by law to pay them.

That's not necessarily true. Maybe they'll throw them into the ensemble for those performances. Or maybe they will get paid as if they are in the filmed presentation, who knows. But that's show business. I can only imagine what the mood was like when Billy Elliot was filmed and they had selected which of the four Billy's would be performing (though all four appeared in the specially choreographed finale). At least in the case of Newsies there is a very firm reason for replacing the two performers.

You don't even know if any performances will be filmed at all. The tour was originally scheduled to play LA for two weeks, but tickets are only available for one week now. I'd bet that the remaining week will be for filming. They could put the tour on layoff and hire only who they want for the filming on a separate contract.

It's also pretty clear from the lack of details that this "BWW Exclusive" did not come from a press release. Proper information will come out in due time, and there's really no need to make blanket statements about who gets paid what, for instance, when nobody here could possibly know.

Sometimes two or three live performances are filmed and then the editors take the best from each performance and create a final version. In the case of OKLAHOMA!, with Hugh Jackman, live performances were filmed, but a lot of the show was then shot with no audience...allowing for a more filmlike shoot with cameras able to be on stage, etc. If Disney is going this route, it might explain tickets only being available for one, rather than two weeks. The second week could be for the performances they plan to capture without an audience.

Exactly. Do you all really think Disney wants to just hack together a few live performances?

Actually the majority of what you see on that Oklahoma DVD was reshot on a studio sound stage. Only the shots of the audience were filmed in the theatre. It's made obvious in the behind the scenes bonus feature.

You are right! The sets were assembled on a soundstage to allow for breakaways, etc. To the untrained eye, it still plays like a show captured live...

Imagine if Trevor Nunn had been allowed to use that same concept he used with Oklahima with the Cats DVD and film the show with a live audience and on an expanded sound stage. It would have been so much better but for whatever reason he was not tapped to direct the film.
