My understanding, based on talking with a friend in the show - I may have misunderstood, but - he mentioned the 2nd week at the Pantages would be dark. They would use the first day or two to put Jeremy and Kara back into the show. Then film a few days without an audience. And then bring in a couple audiences for the live response. But he did say the week would be devoted to filming the show.

I didn't think my "I told you so-s" would get to happen so soon.

"
Yeah. He had been in bad vocal shape for a while .
MichelleCraig said: "Sometimes two or three live performances are filmed and then the editors take the best from each performance and create a final version. In the case of OKLAHOMA!, with Hugh Jackman, live performances were filmed, but a lot of the show was then shot with no audience...allowing for a more filmlike shoot with cameras able to be on stage, etc. If Disney is going this route, it might explain tickets only being available for one, rather than two weeks. The second week could be for the performances they plan to capture without an audience.
"
Actually, in the case of Oklahoma! most of it was filmed on a soundstage where they recreated the staging (something Nunn had previously done with his Glyndenbourne version of Porgy and Bess when it was televised). I, frankly, hate it--especially with the audience reaction shots then edited in. He also had much of the singing done lip synched to the recording (something again he did with Porgy and Bess). It creates an odd sense of disconnect for me.
This sounds much more like the standard way shows like Into the Woods were filmed--several performances in front of an audience, several without, and edited together.
*edit* I see CatsNYC already said the same thing. I still stand by my comment that I don't really like it stylistically (although I agree with you that it still would have been preferable to the way they ended up doing the video of Cats).
If you know where to find it, the Pantages production schedule is online. What had been the 2nd week of performances is now labeled as Newsies Film Shoot, Monday to Saturday, with load out at some point on Saturday. 2 days to put Kara, Jeremy, and anyone else back in, 3 days to film, and then load out for the next city.

Well, it was the first time he showed up for all 8 performances (I want to say they filmed all 8, but I just don't remember). You bet he missed four shows the following week.

He actually insisted it was an entire week of filming.

Alright then. Either way, they are not actually shooting/filming an entire week of performances. Maybe two or three days but not five, six, or seven days as you originally suggested....
Look back at what I wrote, it's exactly what's happening. They're using the Pantages for a week to film the show. Not filming performances, filming like a movie. For the time period that used to be a week of performances. It's exactly what I said, which both you and Neon dismissed immediately because I must be an idiot.
The logistics for the filming are still being worked out. I know that for a fact. And that fact is backed up by the silence from Disney.
so no, you don't know that that is "exactly what's happening." No one knows yet. So calm down and let it go. I'm not sure what your attachment is to this.
They're using the theater for a week to film the show. If you know that details are still being worked out "for a fact," then you at least know that much is true. Which is what I said from the beginning, and you immediately and continually dismissed it. You're not right all of the time, and especially not this time.
Your implication was that they'd be filming for an entire week. If they only film three performances, that's not filming for an entire week. If you meant preparations for filming, then okay. That's completely different. Perhaps you should be more clear in the future. For someone who claims to know the industry, you sure don't use the same vocabulary...
They're not filming three performances, they're filming a week in a dark theater. And if we're going to include prep time, it would probably be more than a week.
Furthermore, if you're so concerned about industry vocabulary, we shouldn't use the terms "film" or "filming" at all.
Still no official announcement as far as casting. Although there appears to be little doubt that the filming will happen, it's beginning to look like the Jordan / Lindsay speculation is a bit premature. I'm sure it is something Disney would like to see happen, but negotiations can be a tricky thing, especially when one of the parties has to factor in a shooting schedule for a T.V. show that is filmed in Vancouver. Hopefully, they'll get it worked out.
