They're all over the place.
See, Brantley still thinks Pippin should win. Everyone can calm down now.
Some of these are crazy. They are overestimating the love for Lucky Guy.
I think Isherwood is closer to what will happen. (I think Pippin will take 3 of the 4 acting categories. And I'm glad I'm not alone here. And they all, in my opinion, deserve it.) I also think Diane Paulus is going to take best director and that Cyndi Lauper will take score.
For the record, I think Pippin will take most of the technical awards, too. (Costumes I could see Cinderella taking.)
Brantley thinks its Osnes's award? Interesting.
I also think Isherwood is closer, although I think Cyndi will win score.

That sentiment has been posted here as well. Personally, I haven't seen all the nominees so I can't really say. I did enjoy her performance and think she will get one at some point if not this year.
I also think Isherwood is closer but I do think Matilda will win best score.
Cyndi Lauper is going to take it. I think that will be Kinky Boots' big award, personally.
I really think Vanya will take play and director.
I definitely think this could be the year of "I never saw that coming…"
It's embarrassing that two people with public voices have such poor taste in theater.
But just as a continuation to my thoughts in another thread, further proof the TIMES has never made objective journalism part of their mantra. Where theatre is concerned, they always have, and always will view showing preference as part of their critical duties.
And these predictions are certainly out with enough time to influence voters...

And Michael Bennett-I wish they'd refrain. They should definitely wait to publish this until closer to the awards.
And what Ben Brantley is essentially saying here is that HERE LIES LOVE needs to go ahead and transfer because they will have his vote next year.
These Times predictions seem to be published earlier each year.
Interesting how Isherwood chose Stark for his "should win" instead of Billy
Thankfully Tony voters have their own judgement and usually ignore what these two have to say. Remember the year LaChanze won? No one even brought her up as a possible winner.
Joe Mantello should have been nominated for "I'll Eat you Last"? Was that for his brilliant and intricate blocking, the wonderful interplay among the cast, the lively pacing, the amazingly creative staging, or something else?
I highly doubt Laura Osnes will win, but I do think and hope that Diane Paulus will. As for Matilda vs Kinky, I think we will see something similar to what happened with Billy Elliot and Next to Normal - Matilda will take everything except Score.

i gotta agree and have been saying so since i saw her... btw, she is VERY active in Social Media, doing vid blogs, Twitter, FB, i think thats going to go a long way

They weren't so spot on last year.
2012 predictions
I think I read somewhere that they make these predictions just after the Tony nominations come out. So they are gut reactions to the nominations as opposed to thorough analysis of the races. Which is why they both predicted Newsies to win last year.
They were also interviewed recently and said that they don't enjoy analyzing the Tonys or awards season. It's just expected of them.
Actually, they were pretty accurate last year. Other than the featured actor awards, the only one they really missed was Best Musical.

It is going to be an interesting year. I am just going to sit back and watch and then cheer like a mad man when the up set happens.
