Gov. Cuomo just said we can move to our next phase next week. This is excellent news and means I can hopefully soon go to my favorite Mexican restaurant and get completely wasted which Ive been dreaming about for months now.

But congrats to my fellow New Yorkers for continuing to (for the most part) put in the work to get us back to normal.

Good luck with that! I'll keep cooking my own food for now...

What's all included in Phase 2 for NYC?

Illinois's going to move to Phase 4 of our reopening on the 26th, which includes indoor seating for restaurants, schools and universities, and groups of 50.

Ive regularly been doing takeout all along...but I've now been to 2 restaurants (we're only allowed outdoor seating right now) and it was GLORIOUS. Have a great time, Jordan.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I cook for myself almost all the time even before all this started so not much changed for me there. I have no desire to rush out to any restaurants still.

The family and friends I know that are working in offices that aren't even practicing the "mandatory" safety standards that they are supposed to be doing and have been complaining to hr nonstop. Thankfully some of them are still able to work from home.

Traffic is getting back to normal pretty quickly lately too.

I've been doing takeout but maybe only once a week. These past few months I've been very fortunate in that my income and job haven't changed (other than its venue), so I've been able to explore delivery options from produce and seafood wholesalers, and that's actually been pretty enjoyable. I don't have any desire to go out and sit somewhere with a drink anytime soon that's not in or in front of my own home.

I keep thinking about this tweet. None of us are pure, per se, but it's worth consideration:

Lol I wasn’t saying I’m running out to restaurants ASAP just that we’re moving in the right direction where I hopefully CAN do that soon. And also so all the restaurant workers I know can get back to work and hopefully their restaurants can remain open.

Oi...they're actually sticking to the two weeks between phases?? This is NOT smart. We barely just got into phase 1 and people are already acting stupid, crowding eating areas with no masks, etc.

Also it says outdoor dining can start...I thought it already did in phase 1. Did I miss something? Those videos from the East Village making the internet rounds are confusing me otherwise.

I think some places have put tables out, but aren't serving people at those tables? I walked through Hell's Kitchen last Saturday and it seemed like randos were just sitting at the tables in front of Nizza, but Nizza wasn't serving any food.

JennH, yes he’s sticking with the phases. The numbers show that we can move on to that.

And Lizzie, I live in HK mad it’s been interesting. Last week there was that HUGE gaggle of gays or without masks on the street and the other night I noticed a lot of restaurants had set up tables outside and were serving people. Then the next day Cuomo threatened their liquor license and that was the end of that for them. But I’m just hoping that since the numbers are so damn low, That instances like that won’t impact infections.

I live in Astoria and Memorial Day weekend was a hot mess. No tables, but a whole lot of lingering and people not knowing where to line up. Some of the streets were like Bourbon Street. Every weekend since has been amoebas of unmasked people in front of bars.

People are way too antsy for us to be ready for phase 2.

Outdoor seating only. But, due to people being morons not wearing masks around the streets and subways, a spike will happen soon enough.

Philly entered their "yellow" phase of reopening this past week which included outdoor dining.  I went to lunch on Sunday and felt very comfortable with the way things were handled.  This was my first time out in Philly in months and I will say that the vast majority of people were masked and people were being respectful.  The city has had relatively low numbers and I hope it stays that way.

NJ started outdoor dining on Monday.  From what I heard from friends who took advantage of the option, it was done very well.  The Jersey Shore sounds like it's another matter completely, but that doesn't surprise me.

NYC started having mass protests after Memorial Day weekend and even had curfew two weeks ago yet there weren't really any significant spikes in daily new cases in recent days. Yes, most protesters did wear masks and most of them tend to be on the younger side. If you're high-risk, I'd still be cautious.

Can someone please tell the people wearing masks around their chins/necks that they might as well not be wearing a mask? I don't mean people who remove it for a few seconds to breathe or sip a drink. I mean people who seem to think they're doing their part just by wearing a mask even if it's not covering their noses and mouths.

Yes! A mask is not a necklace!

(Also, you can slip a straw under a mask and drink. I've done it. It's not that hard.)

Here in MA the rules are as follows (for outdoor dining):  You must wear a mask EVERYWHERE in the restaurant, except while sitting at your own table. ( I put my mask back on to talk to the server - but that's just me.)  All tables have to be 6 feet away from the next.   In the two places I went, I only saw one "violation" over which I almost went nuts:  2 women leaving the establishment not only had not not put their masks back on but walked on each side of our table, freely talking over/around us.

It's also not a bracelet either, like some people seem to think it is.

Phase 2 opening plan will be finalized by tomorrow with the plan as for now to open on Monday 6/22: outdoor dining, some in-store shopping, hair salons, barbershops, and offices in the city would be allowed to reopen in the second phase, with restrictions on capacity and social distancing.

Employees must wear masks when entering buildings, on the elevator and in offices. no more than 50% capacity limits.

My company is phasing in employees with only 30% starting back in the office next week and the rest continue to work remotely. The plan is to be back at 50% capacity after Labor Day for the remaining part of the year. Employees have the option to work remotely but we will be alternating between working in the office and at home every other 2 weeks in order to change it up and summer Friday schedule 9-2 with no lunch break if working in the office.

The rules on hair salons:

It's by appointment only. Each salon and barbershop must follow state regulations, which include making sure employees keep six feet away from each other, reducing occupancy to under 50 percent, keeping confined spaces to one person only (that means one person at a time on elevators and behind cash registers), limiting in-person meetings and doing them in a well-ventilated area with social distancing, taking a customer's temperature, providing protective gear like masks for employees, doing daily healthcare screenings, constant cleanings, and putting up signs of the state's rules.

Among the services that are specifically prohibited:

  • beard trimming
  • nose hair trimming
  • facials
  • nail services
  • makeup application
  • threading
  • tweezing
  • waxing

I won't disclose the firm I work for but we are a mid-sized tech/management company in NYC under 150 employees that' s been around since 2005. Unfortunately, 30% of staff was furloughed (mostly the new hires within the last 2 years) in all departments till after Labor Day with the intention of them coming back but no guarantee so I do know that they are not hiring at this time as are most companies in NYC at this time. I believe after Labor Day-better yet after the New Year more opportunites will open in all sectors!
