Not good
Oh wow, I had totally forgotten about the red envelopes being handed out back when they first started!

this is really bad

Until Friday, TodayTix was owned by a Private Equity firm.
Now it’s owned by a private company that works in the entertainment and experience space. I think that’s a win.
Over the summer, it was reported that ATG was in talks to buy TodayTix — which would have been nice synergy, but ATG itself is owned by private equity which can be a tenuous relationship.
I suspect it will lean heavily into sports and concerts going forward as the official ticket seller of projects under the MARI umbrella. But given its market share for Broadway, the theatre focus shouldn’t go away.

this thread made me laugh out loud.
Ari Emanuel is buying TodayTix--NOT GOOD. THIS IS BAD. As if these people have ANY idea about the merits of the current ownership of TodayTix, which i think is some hedge fund trying to make (even more bucks).
why? no one knows but capitalism is just BAD (even when it comes to a site that is a totally capitalist enterprise), so this MUST be bad also!
who would be a GOOD owner of a ticketing app?

I can't help but wonder just what it is about Emanuel they reject.
TodayTix is such a far cry from what it originally was that I really can’t bring myself to feel any kind of way about this.

I find it convenient, if irritating. I certainly prefer it to some of the other options.
but i just cant see any logic to worrying about one rich guys buying it from another bunch of rich guys. so silly.

He is the main reason that Live Nation is the ****show venue gobbling monster that it is today

*hes* the main reason that Ticketmaster is a money grubbing monster? Him, Ari Emanuel, who--checks notes--left Ticketmaster in 2021? His dark powers are so vast that he not only turned a lovely, well-meaning ticket vendor into a monster (as a Board member not responsible for its actual operations), but he managed to keep it a monster years after hes gone?

I remember when they sold discounted tickets. I use them now because I’ve earned some status and save a tiny bit off the top and it gives me some extra flexibility, but long gone are the days of saving money on theatre tix by using the app. It’s a great search engine for theater showtimes, though.

Now that the app will be taken over by sports bros and tickets for sporting events, maybe this will bring back in person lotteries. I’d welcome that.
