"Brooklyn", or "Urban Cowboy". Take your pick, I can't decide between them two.

In London in the 1970s I saw THE GREAT WALTZ, the Wright-Forrest musical from Strauss. The book is PAINFULLY undramatic and uncomic.

WOMAN IN WHITE is the worst show I've actually seen (though I have opinions about many I haven't seen). I could go on for days about it's single theme score and nonsensical direction and choreography. The story had no mystery. Michael Ball was suprerfluous. The rat gave the best performance. The set was like the adventures of zelda. And I can't listen to Thoroughly Modern Millie anymore without thinking of Miss Dorothy shrieking and squealing dressed all in white.
Bombay Dreams was pretty awful, too. But the fountain made the whole thing worth it. Well, the fountain, and when the prop "stage light" fell off the stage into the audience. That was pretty great. Shakalaka Baby.
And for the few who mentioned this show, I'd just like to say that High Fidelity is a good show with potential--it just had an unfortunate director who forgot to put the story on stage and a choreographer whose work could be outdone by a mediocre show choir director. IMO, of course.

Runners Up:LEGS DIAMOND
MARILYN
Winner of the worst ever that I saw: MAN IN THE MOON. The lady sitting in front of us flung her playbill towards the stage at the end. It was a dreadful, incomprehensible piece of crap

Grease
I'm NOT a fan. After seeing it several times (once professionally), mostly against my will, and acting in it and being forced to study the songs and the script, I can say that it is an awful excuse for a musical, especially one so highly acclaimed as it is.
And someone, PLEASE help me with Evita. I'm not a fan of this one either, but that's definitely because I've only seen the movie. I had to turn it off. If anyone can convince me to give Evita a second chance, I would love you.

fabala, I would give Evita a second chance. Listen to the original cast album. It's fantastic. Patti, Mandy, and Bob and wonderful.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Dance a Little Closer
Minskoff Theatre, (5/11/1983 - 5/11/1983)
Preview: Apr 16, 1983 Total Previews: 25
Opening: May 11, 1983
Closing: May 11, 1983 Total Performances: 1
a musical about henry kissinger not quite averting nuclear holocaust. the gay couple ice-dancing on the minsoff stage and singing, 'why can't the world just leave us alone?' is classic!
worst play of that season: the moose murders (moose musical anyone?) or maybe it was james whitmore in almost an eagle, which was almost a budgie. ran three tedious perfs.

Aida is the worst thing I've ever seen and the only musical where I left at intermission and threw my playbill away. Dreadful.
Legs Diamond was bad but at least it had the marvelous Julie Wilson to ignite it from time to time.

I have the distinction of having worked on two of these shows: "The Little Prince And The Avaitor" and "Dance A Little Closer". During intermission of "Dance", I heard one lady say to another, "This is even worse than THE LITTLE PRINCE", which had been my last show.
Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.

I was assistant musical director of Little Prince and wrote dance music for Dance A Little Closer. My career went better after that. How could it not?

I have a not so legal fomat of Little Prince i could only get through act 1.
I think it biggest problem was it was just very slow and didnt really seem to go anyway
The sets were also very ugly grr

The worst musical I personally have ever seen is The Pirate Queen. So many ballads in the second act. No point to the show. These are just a couple of its faults.
