This is available to stream now on Apple Music and Spotify. It’s a lot of fun and it’s the most complete recording of the show. Jay always uses a full orchestra for their recordings, so they always sound fuller than anything we can hear on Broadway today.
In the past, they’ve released full recordings of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, SWEET CHARITY, THE KING AND I, KISMET, WEST SIDE STORY, CABARET, SHOW BOAT, MAN OF LA MANCHA and others.
Google Jay Records and check out their website. No, I don’t work for them, but I love a lot of their recordings.

Thank you! I've just added it to my iTunes library!
This was recorded in 1996. I wonder how many unreleased albums they have on the shelf.

Yes, the "new" gave me a chuckle.
Stick to the OBCR. Marti Stevens is enjoyable as Dorothy Brock, but it’s kind of a lifeless shrug overall. I don’t know if the cast and orchestra were recorded all together or not, but it SOUNDS like they weren’t.

I adore the OBC - - - one of the last gasps of the classically styled Broadway shows before the ALW/Mackintosh invasion.
whoops! a duplicate post.
I wonder how that happened?

I don't even like the OBCR –– but it's a hell of a lot better than what Jay just put out. And no Julian Marsh could be better than Jerry O.
Love this new cd. Purchased several weeks ago on Amazon. It's fantastic!

Wishing the never-released recording of London's MAME with Ginger Rogers would materialize.

Apparently, the story of a MAME London cast recording that was never released is just a legend. People who worked on the production said no such recording was ever made.

I don't know that ALW/M are responsible for the shift (can't call it an evolution), but this is indeed what Broadway shows sounded like. It's hard to define the sound. Even Dreamgirls, with a very different musical style, and not recorded by everyone at once the first Sunday after opening, replicates it. For me, that sound defined the Broadway musical. And yes, it's long gone.

The fabled Colony Records was taking deposits on the recording. Mine was returned by mail when Miss Rogers didn't approve of the way she sounded on it. (So the story goes)
Did Ginger Rogers ever make any sort of recording of anything?

That reminds me of when Colony actually closed. So many Facebook posts lamenting because it had always been such a great place to browse. Of course, when you asked if they ever actually bought anything while browsing it was always "no, they were too expensive so I just ordered from Amazon."

FACTS! Even before the internet or Amazon, I spent many hours browsing their record bins, I also frequented Footlight Records as well. And I only ever shelled out major $$$ if the records was extremely obscure or out-of-print and so did many others that I knew as well.
Damn, I'm OLD! LOL!

You may be old but take solace: the now-invisible Mr Roxy is that much older than any of us on these boards.
