Here are some pictures of the new giant billboard for The Drowsy Chaperone in the breezway between 45th and 46th streets under the Marquis Hotel. They put it up Thursday night. Very big and very cool! It's so big I had to take three pictures to get it all! (Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures. I have a lame camera and it's dark in the breezway.)
Note the size of the billboard by comparing it to the man sitting under the picture with Sutton Foster.

I dont see them....
I saw that yesterday, and my jaw almost hit the floor. I was so upset that they covered that great photo mural with Joel Grey as the Emcee, amongst other things.
As much as I love Drowsy, I am VERY upset by this. How could you ever cover up the old balck and white photo mural collage thing with Joel Grey, Carol Channing, the cast of A Chorus Line, among other things. That is a classic presentation and a statement about classic Broadway. Drowsy should take theirs down NOW!
P.S. I love you Drowsy, just not as much as my classics.
Thats an awesome billboard, but I wish they didnt cover the mural.
I know! I liked the mural that was there...but this isn't permanent and I'm happy to see Drowsy advertised in a big way!

AAAAhHHH
SIXFOOT SUTTON SHOWIN' OFF!
i dont remember those lights being there before...they should've had them for the old billboard there too (hopefully th old one is behind it or something...)
Don't worry! I saw them putting it up and the mural behind will be just fine! :)
Yeah, I remember the old mural...but when I saw this at the Saturday matinee I was very impressed. As you can see, it's HUGE--got me very excited for the show. I'm sure the mural will be back in the future.
Thats really good news that the mural will be ok, because I really love that mural!! I remember when it first went up! very exciting!

they covered Carol Channing??? i think i'm going to cry...
I'm through that area every day on my lunch break. They removed the old mural. Really pissed about it. They removed it, restored parts of the solid mirror on the wall, and then put up the billboard.
i have not seen the show, but want to, i am upset that the old "space filler" is replaced with this...
clearly this is aimed at the tourist's comming out of the hotel.
put the old one back
I share in the mixed feelings. With so many vestiges of Times Square's past getting eaten up with condos and office space and retail spaces, it's bizarre to see a great idea covering up something special.
This is the most Man-In-Chairish thread I've ever read here.
This is Broadway, my friends. Nothing is forever here. Not even Cats.

NOT EVEN CATS?! Bite your tongue!
Anyways, anyone have pictures of the old mural?
I think it looks super. I would assume the new mural will be removed whenever the show closes since the old montage remains intact behind it. It must be spooky to be in the show and see your photo so large!

Why cover up classic art for that trash?

Drowsy producers will never take it down..
Is this the same breezeway where the temporary TKTS booth is going? If so, man, what a location for publicity!
It's interesting that no other show at the Marquis felt the need to advertise in such a big way. Maybe the producers are nervous after loosing the 'Best Musical' Tony.
It's huge! I saw it as they were putting it up, and Troy Britton Johnson and one of the Kravits brothers came to gawk at it as well.
I like it! It's a very cute ad, and I really hate the mirrors when I'm around the Marquis.
