New Julia Child play. Meryl Streep?

I heard through a source close to the project that a one woman show based on The life of Julia Child would be debuting on Broadway this next season. And that because it’s such a large role and as a one woman show they needed a high profile actress. I then heard that they have her they are just waiting for “her” to have a confirmed opening. Any thoughts who it would be. Would Meryl Streep reprise her role? It would be an original play that she had said she would like to return to broadway. Thoughts? And if not Meryl. Who? They definitely implied “Hollywood” star

I cant see why she would.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

This interests me to no end. I am a huge fan of Julia and we share the same birthday. I think Laura Linney could pull this off well.

Its being written by a biographer for Julia Child. But he is also a biographer for Bob Dylan.

I like Laura Linney for this, but would watch Meryl on stage in a heartbeat (which I won't have because I'd have died as soon as she entered the stage). Helena-Bonham Carter could be interesting too.

Anyone have any idea what Child's age range is in this?

Almost everyone is way too short, may not be sufficiently high profile - or both (not quite sure from the original post, if they're looking for a major marquis name nec. or simply for a huge talent to carry it - though of course they'd prefer both)

Nicole Kidman?
Allison Janney?
Vanessa Redgrave?

Emma Thompson strikes me as a very good choice but she's not tall. Maybe height isn't so important in a one woman show.

Janet McTeer strikes me as ideal - but is she the kind of name they're looking for?

I really should have taken more notes. I was talking with the playwright at company in London and he was telling me this. We had started talking about being in theatre etc. I even was told the title. But I’ve forgotteb it. There was so much going on. But I take it that it’s ala “I’ll eat you last” kind of show I gathered.

I of course haven't read the play, but it's hard to imagine a biography of Julia Child not addressing her height. She was 6'2. That would really eliminate (from my mind anyway) people like the diminutive Helena Bonham Carter (who hasn't done a play anyway). Allison Janey would be fun. Janet McTeer can do anything (except maybe sell tickets). Cherry Jones?

This is a one woman show? If so, the set just needs to be built to scale to give the impression that anyone on it is taller than they are.

Within reason. I don't think Helena Bonham Carter is going to ever look 6'2 even on the Munchkinland set.

Jane Lynch played Julia's sister in the "Julie & Julia" film, so perhaps she could play Julia on stage, as well. She is 6 foot even.

I love the Janet McTeer and Cherry Jones suggestions, but they're hardly the stars needed to sell a show like this. Some taller actresses that would be great are; Sigourney Weaver, Geena Davis, and Laura Dern. I also love the Allison Janney suggestion.

The height issue can be worked with, Meryl Streep is 5'6. Allison Janney would be great too.

The sets and camera angles and casting was worked to create the illusion Meryl was tall in JULIE AND JULIA. Especially the sequences where she’s side-by-side with the actors playing students at Cordon Bleu.

You know, I read that last line as "Corbin Bleu". I was going to say, Brody...I don't think Corbin Blue was in Julie & Julia
