Playbill.com has uploaded a whole bunch of new covers for the shows coming in this spring:
Blithe Spirit at the Shubert Theatre
Exit the King at the Barrymore Theatre
Hair at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre
Impressionism at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre
Irena's Vow at the Walter Kerr Theatre
reasons to be pretty at the Lyceum Theatre
And there were a couple where I could only get the thumbnail...sorry:
God of Carnage at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre
Joe Turner's Come and Gone at the Belasco Theatre
Rock of Ages at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre
Oohh!! I love HAIR's playbill!!
and BLITHE SPIRIT's looks great!
Blithe looks AMAZING!
Does anyone happen to know what West Side Story's will look like?
CSonBroadway: I completely forgot to put the WSS playbill in my earlier post. Here you go:
West Side Story at the Palace Theatre
Thanks broadwayguy! I love the logo, but I wish they would use a little bit more than just having it say West Side Story.

I like it. Beautiful, simple.
I love Hair, but let's be honest, the playbill is not gonna look that good after a couple of weeks...

There's this website [IMPAwards] that annually hands out citations for movie posters. There's a category for "bravest posters," wherein the production has the biggest names you can assemble but none of these celebrities' faces are to be found on the poster.
For spring 2009, I think Exit the King and God of Carnage, hands down, are brave not to feature Rush, Sarandon, Ambrose, Martin, Gandolfini, Harden, Davis and Daniels in any of their show artworks. Great ad agencies!
I must admit! Rock of Ages playbill f**** ROCKS!

Do most shows have full color playbills for the first few weeks of opening?

"the tale of two citites one is hideous!"
WHY? It looks pretty classy and to the point to me, while not giving away the story.
Oh, and I LIKE the colors.
Your choice of words might apply better to "Hair" or "Reasons to be Pretty", yeah?
Do most shows have full color playbills for the first few weeks of opening?
usually, sometimes they only have one for opening night.
I love the Playbills for the new season. I hope Hair can keep the color Playbills for awhile.
color is often used while (if) a show is selling well. Once costs need to be watched (in the winter, poor sales) they will switch to B/W.
Rock of Ages is horrible. Not even corny in a good way.
Rock of Ages is pretty much perfect for the show.

It's been my experience that the color version is used until such time as financial considerations (i.e., sagging box office) come into play. I've had the experience where, at the same performance, some of the Playbills are in color and some are in black and white. And I believe it's Roundabout's policy not to publish their Playbills in color ever. It was really a shame last year that Sunday in the Park with George didn't have a color Playbill -- the logo was quite lovely. It all comes down to money. And boo-hiss for the artwork for reasons to be pretty.
The ROCK OF AGES Playbill looks like "The 80s" threw up all over it.
From what I hear, they have done the same thing up onto the stage, so it seems like a good fit.
Oh, and that's what the floors of the theatre will look like following each performance, too!
But I'm not going to make judgments until I see the show.
The first thing that came to my mind after seeing the ROCK OF AGES playbill was He-Man and the Master of the Universe!
