I'm sorry if this kinda post is annoying to some, but I'm heading down with some friends to New York on Saturday from RI and we're hoping to be able to rush Next to Normal (not really picky which one that day, just as long as we get to see it). What time would we have to get to the line to have guaranteed seats? And because there are 2 showings that day, will there be twice the number of tickets being offered for rush? It'd be terrible to go all that way and not be able to see it.
Except I did. For about an hour. I wanted specific info about this coming Saturday (being a Saturday, and having two showings that day). Just making sure I have as accurate info as I can get. And I apologized.

I did a search too, and came up with TONS of threads within 10 seconds. All you had to do was bump up one of those threads. Also, I know some of those threads had pretty recent information about the rush situation this summer. I doubt it has changed that much.

jayobear - No one can predict what rush will be like for that specific day. Yes, you get the benefit of there being two shows and more tickets available. Yet on the other hand, that is a weekend and weekends are typically busier. I guess just go with the time suggested, between 4 amd 6am. I hope you get tickets!
Grrr... I think I'll be rushing that day as well. I've seen the show six times, and I've never rushed, but that's because I have a job, and don't mind s***ty seats. But my friend is visiting and never really sees theatre, and I want to get her prime seats.
Guess i'll see you there at 4am. My suggestion is to do what I'll be doing: go on an all-night bar crawl, and when they close at 4am and you're drunk as a skunk, wander over to 45th street.
Yeah, I've pretty much hear that you need to be there by at least 6:30 to have a chance at a ticket. If your hotel is within walking distance from the theater, find out the day before how long the walk to the theater is and I would start walking to the theater about 10 min. + walking distance before 6 A.M. because I know that I would walk a lot slower when I wake up at about 5:30. Tickets will probably be easier to get with two shows, but I haven't rushed for the show, so I don't really have experience. I would bring something like a pop-tart to eat in the line for breakfast. Also, you might get a little hungry waiting in line for four hours, so maybe bring a cereal bar. If there's anything you could do in the line or while walking to the theater instead of at the hotel, do it then. You probably don't need all of that information, but Next to Normal is now one of the hardest rush shows on Broadway, so, the earlier the better. I have heard rumors that they're switching to lotto once the buzz with rush dies down, but that probably won't be for a while because of the suggested time to be there.
^ that made almost no sense. ANd thanks for giving advice for what you've never done. Thud.

dramamama611, actually I typed that up right after I woke up (yes, I sleep in until 10:30/11:00 sometimes), so my brain was not completely functional. I was just telling what I would do if I were to rush, although I'm not really qualified. I can just keep going on and on when typing posts if nobody can stop me.
Parks, yes, that's what I heard on a Next to Normal forum posted by a person who is confirmed to be Alice Ripley's personal assistant, so I would expect that she would know what's happening with the show. I would be more excited for it if I lived in New York.
Except those decisions don't involve the cast at all...yet alone their personal assistants.
But CONFIRMED PA? On a forum? Bwahahaha. Highly doubtful that that's true -- and she'd be risking her job to talk about things not yet released.
That being said, of course it's POSSIBLE for the switch, it's been known to happen.

Okay, well I don't remember exactly who said it, but I am 99.99% sure she is telling the truth she is Alice's personal assistant. Okay, I'll post this and edit later when I find out more about it after a quick search.

If that is true, why would they switch to a lotto when the rush dies down? Isn't the point of switching to a lotto to keep people from sleeping in front of the theater night after night?
I think the rush -> lotto rumors are just hearsay.
I understand that you don't just trust any random people on the internet. It has been reinforced into my brain in health class. Let's put aside the "Is she really Alice's personal assistant" for now. I only said I heard rumors of the rush changing to lotto. It was something I heard once and remembered. It probably won't happen any time soon. I'm just wondering, when did Rent change from Rush to lotto? I believe the first show to do lotto instead of rush was The Producers, so it was probably not years and years after that. I don't think that they will switch to lotto sometime like tomorrow, or in a couple months for that matter, but I believe it's a possibility in a long time.
EDIT: Just in case anybody is wondering about the forum, here's the website:
...wasn't Rent the first show to switch to lotto, because the kids were SLEEPING in front of the theatre all night and it like, was a safety issue with so many people being packed there for the night??
Not that this means a thing, but Alice's personal assistant has taken to befriending a lot of the kids that worship Alice, so it's entirely possible that it was in fact her real-life assistant posting on this forum (which I've never been to).

The producers really are investigating the possibility of switching from rush to lotto. It's not a done deal, but they understand how crazy the rush has gotten and are looking into other options. Who knows how soon they'll get around to making a decision, though - it's not exactly the most urgent concern.
I don't doubt that it might be true, I've actually heard others (probably on OTHER N2N rush threads) make this same claim.
I suppose I'm just getting weary of the influx of children on THIS site. Forgive my snarkiness.

Yankee, did The Producers have people camping out for rush seats?
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.
