Even if they wanted to ignore Catered Affair, it's just mind boggling that Schmuckenstein was recognized. I mean, what about The Glorious Ones?
By the way, the Gypsy producers aren't pushing Boyd Gaines for lead, are they? Anyone connected with the show on this board, PLEASE tell them to push him for featured. He'll win in that category.
And didn't the fellow who played the lead in Adding Machine get very solid notices? He was ignored too. Aside from the notices, he was very good. A lot better than Roger Bart.
I'm a little surprised myself at the OCC nominations. It makes you wonder what they were thinking. Maybe they weren't thinking. Maybe they just closed their eyes and pointed.

2 things- SIAN PHILLIPS? good god. that should not have happened, and YAY ALICE RIPLEY!
As much as I loved Kerry Butler and Cheyenne Jackson, how the bleepin f could they not have nominated Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa? Whoever said crack was ingested was right I think.
They obviously loved YF, and if the nominations make sense, it's a sweep for Brooks again.

All the Mel Brooks bashers need to get off their high horse and realize that both The Producers and Young Frankenstein are great shows.
Hope you weren't talking about my post, because there was no bashing there. Just thinking that it's Springtime for Brooks - nothing else.
Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman should have been co-nominated. They were excellent. Cheyenne and Kerry are excellent as well. The show is actually well executed and very clever.
You said it bwaygal1 - I really missed Jackie Hoffman at Sunday's performance (she was out.) But Mary, Cheyenne and Kerry (especially) were really on top of their game. It's very sad none of them got nominated. Still hopeful for the Tonys though
.... maybe THEY'LL get it right.
Cry-Baby, Young Frankenstien, Xanadu and A CATERED AFFAIR for Best New Musical and not ITH.
I am irked, grrr......
EDIT: Whoops, sorry. forgot it was ineligible.
HEIGHTS was ineligible as it won and was nominated for Best New Off-Broadway Musical last year.
Some of these nominations are crazy. Young Frakenstein over Passing Strange for Best New Musical?? Passing Strange got raves across the board, while YF got mixed-to negative reviews. I don't understand it.
"Amy Morton being left out of Best Actress in a Play is an absolute travesty."
I couldn't agree more! I was SHOCKED when I saw that she wasn't nominated! Her performance was hands down the best I've seen all year...male or female, musical or play. She was phenomenal and I hope that this precedent isn't followed by the Tony's.

Amy Adams is the performer nominated for ADDING MACHINE? Outrageous!
NEXT TO NORMAL and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE got any nominations at all?
Outrageous!
Jenna Russell got snubbed for SUNDAY IN THE PARK?
Excellent!!
I just love typing that.
Jenna Russell got snubbed for SUNDAY IN THE PARK.
Jenna Russell got snubbed for SUNDAY IN THE PARK.
mmmmmm, that's good nominating!
And this is why these are OUT OF TOWN critics, because generally they have poor taste.
And congrats to Adam Bock. Nominated for two plays!

Roscoe, I don't get why you don't like Jeanna Russell's performance. Are you blind and deaf?
I'm glad N2N and Ripley got nominated, but the rest of that list is f'n confusing. Snubs for Passing Strange (with Cry-Baby getting the nod!) and Amy Morton are inexcusable. Also, I am a big fan of Young Frankenstein, but I do not understand that number of nominations. Way too many and especially the one for Roger Bart, he nearly ruined the show for me the second time I saw it with his absurd level of hamminess.
There is no reason to even discuss these nominations because they're so laughable. This will have no bearing on the Tonys. These people nominate and vote for shows they think will play well in their out of town markets.
