Would you like fries with that?
I really don't get it. No love for Passing Strange!!
UGH!!
Some of these nominations are mind-numbing bunk. Although I do like The Receptionist and Adding Machine in the Off-Broadway categories. Xanadu wins by default in the Best Musical category.
I hope this isn't a glimpse of awards season on Broadway. That would be frightening.
Once again the OCC's prove they're, for the most part, a big laugh fest. Is no one else outraged that they overlooked Andrea Martin? She's the only worthwhile performance in YF other than Hensley. Fitzgerald getting a nod is a shame, only fueling the "scenery chewing gets recognized" illness of the Occ's. Cry Baby, really?
At this point, I wouldn't be so quick to hand the Best Musical award over to XANADU.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN got ten nominations and could very well win...
I have to defend Sherie. I thought she was the only diamond in the rhinestones of The Little Mermaid.
She was so great in it.
If YF wins Best Musical you know someone got paid.
It should be Xanadu and if not Xanadu, then 'A Catered Affair'. And how can Cry-Baby get a nomination? They haven't opened yet.

Sherie's nod (although I havent seen TLM) was one of the only surprises that I was happy about. She's great in everything she does!
I agree GrandMotel. I'll also add that Sherie did NOT deserve a nod at all and Kelli O'Hara is becoming one of those boring actresses who's forever going to get a nod for anything she does no matter what, much like Karen Ziemba.

Sheri is an amazing performer. But honestly -
Testa and Hoffman have been wowing critics and audiences for almost eleven months. They got flat out raves from every important critic out there.

It's nuts - XANADU is the best reviewed and most beloved musical comedy in years, let alone this season.
If they give it to YF over Xanadu, you know crack has been ingested.
If YF wins over Xanadu, it's because the OCC are on massive amounts of drugs.
Xanadu got as many pointed out, some of the best reviews of this season and the best word of mouth and yet NOT ONE of the lead actors gets a nomination. It's insane.
I say we all contact them and leave our thoughts and opinions!

YF doesn't deserve 10 noms, but Christopher did deserve his.
But really:
BOYD FOR LEADING?
YAZBECK?
SHULER HENSLEY?
Wow.

HA !!!!! This IS a joke, right?
And Kerry Butler not getting a nom is absolutely ridiculous !!
I can go on and on about how ridiculous this entire list is.
I could go on forever. Just lots of un-worthy noms and lots of omissions.
It occurs to me that the nominating committee hasn't even seen half these shows.

I totally agree with many of the comments, particularly those who were outraged about YF being nominated in preference to Passing Strange, which, though not my favorite show in the world, is certainly more worthy than the Mel Brooks mess.
However, as a word of comfort to all, I recall that in 1996, Steel Pier (a much better show, for all its flaws, than YF ever was) got the most Tony nominations and did not win in any category. One other thing, how much do the Outer Critics Circle awards mean in the long run? First of all, most people don't even know what they are. Second of all, no one cares anyway. So everybody take a deep breath and may the TRULY best show win!!!
I cannot believe Andrea Martin did not get nominated for YF. Both she and Chris Fitzgerald stole that show.
This list reads as if someone wrote down a bunch of names on pieces of paper and just threw them in the air and nominated whoever landed first. The nominees seem almost random.
I can not believe that Passing Strange and Xanadu each only got one nomination. Those were two of the best-reviewed musicals of the season -- doesn't the Outer Critics Circle consist of CRITICS?
A small consolation -- as pointed out by Wayman Wong on ATC, last year, Mary Poppins got the most nominations with 11 and Spring Awakening got only 3 (but won all 3 while Mary Poppins won nothing). (Grey Gardens was ineligible last year.)
To me, these nominees are fine, but those that we see that are left out are probably the one's we are going to be seeing come Tony nomination time.
It's kind of like the GOLDEN GLOBES and the OSCARS...IMHO!
Mikem, you stated that PERFECTLY. What a list. Young Frankenstein shouldn't even be on there that many times. It REALLY better not show what's going to happen come Tony time.
I thought it was me thinking these noms were a joke but seems like most people here agree.
how did most of the actresses in August miss out (unless they cancelled each other out?).
Is it me or is Xanadu the only musical that seems like it might make it onto the Tony Awards list? (Unless it all goes awry this year?)
Go 'Young Frankenstein' Go! 10 nominations!
After all the bitterness about this show on this board i hope to god it wins! (Personally i want 'A Catered Affair' to win!)
Oh, Sybil, best post in the thread.
I wonder why Houdyshell for New Century and not The Receptionist.
