Off-Broadway’s JERSEY BOYS To Close May 22, 2022

This reminds me - when the hell are we going to see the Pro-shot version of the show that Nick Jonas was starring in?

Don’t know… but the closing notice just posted did end with, “More news about JERSEY BOYS will be announced shortly.” Could be proshot news, but I’m not sure."

Wow! I walked past New World Stages yesterday afternoon and was greeted by the Jersey Boys signage and thought to myself how great that it was still running even in it's abbreviated form. It was like running into an old friend you hadn't seen for a very long time....and now this news.

I dunno. Assuming they've been bleeding money since they resumed performances in November and burned through gov't relief, summer probably won't make a huge difference and could require a bigger ad spend than they're used to. The language is a little funny, but I think that's them trying to specify that only the New York production is closing, not everywhere else.

I do think this show has just lived its life, but I do wonder if the Shuberts have something they'd like to put in this theatre. IDK how the financials of shrinking the max audience size works for some of these shows, but Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Girl From The North Country, and Freestyle Love Supreme all seem like shows that were/are in Shubert theatres, weren't/aren't doing too well in their theatres, could play well in a smaller theatre, and still have dedicated audiences.

Nick Jonas led Jersey Boys had a showing here in LA that Nick Jonas attended. Still not sure what the point of that project is?

A lot of regional theaters are doing the show.

Sad to see this go, as it was my most attended show (twice on Broadway and four times at NWS). Though I can't say I'm too surprised, as it looked like the theater was about half full when I went in February. I suppose it's really lived out the course of its life, but I do wonder if this means that the theater has something lined up to come in afterwards. My friend was saying how if Harmony doesn't make it to Broadway, she'd love to see it in a place like New World Stages.
