Has it ever happened that a show has been nominated for orchestrations and not been nominated for best score or best musical, in the appropriate case, best revival? How is that judged? Maybe I don't understand? "
I'm not surprised that Bandstand got an Orchestrations nomination. So much of the music is played by the band (the characters) on stage... so the orchestrator had to figure out what went to those instruments, and what went to the regular pit orchestra that supports them. It's always an interesting technical musical challenge when you have cast members playing instruments as part of the show, and I thought it was done really successfully in Bandstand. I do think the score was decent (some songs really excellent, some really forgettable) and it surely would've gotten a nod in a less competitive season.
Oh thank you carnzee and my apology to MM; I'd like to think I'm one of the nicer posters around "here" but you can't always tell...(those other people may now continue to bicker...)
and by nicer I meant "accommodating" of other's POV...

I'm SO happy for all the Jitney love! I really wasn't expecting so many nominations, it got as many as The Little Foxes! Do you guys think it could actually win Best Revival?
LuPone nor Ebersole made reaction statements today. I am surprised, but maybe they are a little upset that the show itself wasn't nominated in the major categories?

They're receiving a Special Tony Award, not a Tony Award for Best Sound Design."
SO since Sound Design is not listed on the TONY AWARDS page, Could some one send me a list of shows nominated. Or am I right about the special Tony for Sound and that's it for this year????
Hey again, brdway411! So, Sound Design isn't a category in this season's Tony Awards. There are no nominees in the first place, because the category been defunct since 2014—though it's set to be reinstated next year, 2018.
The Encounter's sound designers are receiving a general Special Tony Award that so happens to honor their feat in sound design. It isn't a sound design Tony; it's a non-competitive, general honor the Tonys distribute each year to recognize somebody (or some people) for their particular achievements that season.

I find people saying they cried when someone was/wasn't nominated just tragic.
Fair enough if you know the person (well) but not if you have no link to them, it's just weird.

I'm happy except I wanted another great comet lady, so the one who doesn't deserve the nomination is Baldwin, let's not forget her turn as evil Reba in songbird

Great job to whoever designed that. If I was walking past, especially with the lack of lights on that street, I'd think they'd already won Best Play.
What was wrong with Kate Baldwin as Evil Reba in Songbird? She was the best part of that show. Now, if you want to get me started on Ephie Aardema...
Sweat has their's up too. I walked by last night. Will post a picture later!

We saw Anastasia this past Sunday, and while one person in our party thought Peil was terrible, I thought she was the best thing about this relatively tepid show.

I definitely think Mr. Briones was more deserving than Mr. Groban. By comparison, Groban's part is much smaller and I didn't feel that Comet was significantly enhanced by his performance.

Me too. Very disappointed by this.

Every time I read something like that, I hope the person is being facetious. Surely no one is that emotionally invested in a show that it warrants tears if someone wasn't nominated.

Really? I see people saying that for movies and TV lol. Especially when Tatiana Maslany kept getting snubbed for Orphan Black. People get emotionally invested in these things, why y'all surprised?

At the age of 21, Is Eva Noblezada the youngest acting nominee of this year, right?

I am so glad there are only 4 nominees. Tonys have given up on giving a mammoth amount of noms

I think the nominators felt it was too similar to the 1995 production. That's the only thing I can think of for it being shutout.
I am happy for Eva Noblezada, but I am also pretty surprised that she snuck in there.
All in all, I find these nominations pretty straightforward, but Noblezada, Mike Faist, and the Falsettos cast made for some nice surprises. And JENN COLELLA! That made me grin like an idiot.
Sincere question: Were Sally Field, Cate Blanchett, and Danny Devito nominated mostly because of their Hollywood status? Or are their performances in the shows that noteworthy?
