yeah... so I'm totally not bashing on diana, she's really very VERY talented, but I just cant imagine her being able to sing those songs like Eden :) Seriously, it was just insane how much eden blew my mind. The first time I heard once upon a time I was just completly SPEECHLESS. and then streetsinger? forget about it. Its like... there's litterally not a note in the known universe that girl cannot hit (and I know some people have called it screaming... well, let me just say this. I'd KILL to "scream" like that" hahah). I wasn't even speechless after hearing idina in Defying Gravity from the wicked soundtrack, and I absolutely ADORE idina! So yeah, I just.. I cant see diana being able to hit all those notes, or at least not stong enough. I dont know.. maybe I'm just underestimating her due to not having heard her in like 3 years :) haha

Well, to be fair, Diana's improved a lot since Idol and she's got an incredible range. Her singing in Brooklyn is amazing and I would even say she does as good, if not a better, job with the singing than Eden. I'll say this though--Diana can hit the high notes in OUAT without screeching better than Eden can (if you get ahold of one of Diana's OUAT performances without the key change). In any case, Brooklyn is a vocal demanding role and both women sing it well.

I think we should celebrate that both Eden and Diana have graced the role of Brooklyn and just moved us with their talent. Those who are in Houston, Dallas and San Jose over the coming weeks will be in heaven. Eden has with Brooklyn and now Wicked solidified her self as a major Broadway star and as for Diana while new on the scene she did herself proud as Penny in Hairspray and now wowing them in Brooklyn.(She returns to Hairspray Sept Broadway is healthy with the calibre of these two ladies.

I heard Diana doing BKLYN in St Paul. She definitely has the voice for it, and hit every single note. OUAT and Streetsinger were absolutely insane, and they had me in open-mouthed shock. I could not believe all that sound was coming out of such a little body! (She is tiny!)
During most of her Hartford run, she had to sing OUAT a half-step lower due to sickness, but it sounded like she was back in the original key by the time she hit Atlanta. She doesn't screech like I've heard Eden do in some clips, and I prefer her Little Brooklyn voice to Eden's - at least in the CD.

I saw Diana when the tour came to Hartford. She was great, I couldn't tell she was sick, but she did sing it a little lower. She does sing it differently than Eden though, but I really liked it.
I'm a loser and usually will like something even if it got bad reviews, but Brooklyn was just soooo boring.

I saw it twice and Broadway and I must say, I'm guilty of loving it!

BKLYN is amazing.
I loved it. It was amazingly vocal. Its songs were stirring, yes the story was shaky, but Eden & Ramona truly made the show.
I love Diana Degarmo and would love to hear her ONCE UPON A TIME. I can't wait to go see her in HAIRSPRAY in September.

I don't understand how you can say the show is amazing, then say the show is shaky? It seems to be the same consensus that the performances are great but the story sucks. Yes their voices sound great, but are you listening to the words they're saying? I think some people get blinded by the belting, she's singing about gingerbread houses and roses growing through concrete, what?!
I don't mind you liking hte show, but you have to realize how horrible the story and lyrics are?
I don't get blinded by the Belting- I know many people who love and quote the lyrics.

One of my favorite quotes is:
"Life was a dance, and endless ballet, suspended in time and then swept away."
My friends love to quote Raven and Once Upon a Time.
Also, Rentboy- Please try to respect people wishes and not to bash Brooklyn in an apreaciation thread.

Well, RentBoy, this is the type of show where you have to suspend your disbelief. A lot.
But I'm not defending all flop musicals. Just for the record, folks, I'm not some kind of flop lover. Apart from Astonishing and Some Things Are Meant To Be, I don't really care for Little Women. I think In My Life is the bane of Broadway's existence.
But Brooklyn is just a good show. That's all I think. However, I do think they made a huge mistake going directly to Broadway. Off-Broadway was where they should have been first.

I mean, I have the OBC, I've seen the show, and I still don't get why people are so in love with this show. It has some good singing in it, but if you listen to the sh*t they're saying, it's so stupid. And the whole "drug sequence" is horrible. I mean c'mon, "Santa Claus is just a man, wearing funny clothes. Rudolph is just a song, someone has composed..." What? You like these lyrics?

Explain to me how this show was amazing? You said, the show was amazing. Not the cast, so tell me how the show was amazing.
And how was it unestimated? The show was horrible. It has a horrible book, horrible lyrics, decent music, and a great cast. I think it got what the show deserved. It was bad children's theater. It was way too preachy and way to "life is good."
Wo there, RentBoy. You're getting WAY too upset over something so not important. You need to chill.

Again, RentBoy, we're glad YOU approve of someone liking "hte" show. But this isn't about you. It's about a musical. Relax. Turn on the spell check, and step AWAY from the computer.

actually, I have to say, there were a lot of lyrics in the show that I DID like. Sure, call it cheesy, whatever you like, but I think once upon a time is just a great song all around :) and hey, even if the story and lyrics arent the best at points (and I'm not disagreeing, at certain points it can get really stupid- but I'm just saying even the lyrics DO have a couple strong points here and there), a show overall isn't just about the story and lyrics. It's the story, lyrics, songs musically, acting, singing, and overall feeling you have as you walk out of the theater right? I mean, thats always basically how I've judged musical shows. So, going by that,For BKLYN I'd give the story a C, the lyrics a B- (thought some were great, others were admitedly really.. not good), songs musically an A, acting an A (I thought eden and ramona both did an AMAZING job acting and performing), singing an A+ for sure, and overall feeling an A- :) Obviously thats totallly just my personal opinion and everyone else is perfectly entitled to theirs, but basically, I thought it equalled out to a pretty darn awesome show.
And I really am impressed that so many people are so impressed with Diana. She MUST have improved greatly from idol, because although she always did have a really good voice, I NEVER really would have thought to put it in the same league as Eden's from what I'd heard on idol! And.. I dont know.. on idol, there was kinda always something about her that.. annoyed me a lil bit. Just, I felt like she mumbled or something a lot of the time. But I really do want to hear her now, cause its been a while and I bet shes gotten a lot lot better!
And as for the people saying eden screams, I can totally understand where that idea comes from in theory- like, I can hear how to some people it COULD sound like screaming, but.. I dont know, to me it just makes her seem even more amazing haha. Like, I feel like that "screaming" quality in her voice in just because she's SUCH a powerhouse and she just gives it all she's got, which also contributes to her affect as a performer. Then again, I'm also the one who feels like Idina's "huge gasps" that everyone talks about actually contributes to her acting in Wicked since naturally at that point elphie is exited and nervous and WOULD be a little bit out of breath. But thats a whole other debate :) just sayin though, i tend to have wierd opinions on these things hehe

I'm really not as pissed as I'm coming off, but it just irks me for some reason that some people call this show "amazing." I can usually find something great in every show I see. Admittedly, I like some shows (Sunset Blvd) that are exactly high-art, but this show is just, wow. It's horrible. I don't remember one lyric that I would call "great." There are a few catchy tunes, but for the most part it was a dumb musical. I can't imagine any producer wanting to money into this show. I don't get how people can walk out of the theater "feeling changed" after seeing the show? It's cool, if you like the show, it's all good. I just don't see it.
Well they did, so live with it.

I see the point RentBoy is trying to make and I actually agree.
Talented cast, but the lyrics...? But sorry. That's just my opinion. I'll stop there. Just thought that RentBoy needed some support.

Thanks Paris. I don't mind them enjoying the show, I just don't understand why they're so defensive and why they can't see the faults of the show.
