but this show is just, wow. It's horrible. I don't remember one lyric that I would call "great."
Well YOU didn't call it "great". Someone ELSE did. In this world, we're all entitled to our *gasp* OWN opinions. Imagine that.
I just don't understand why they're so defensive
Talk about the pot calling the kettle purple.

An utterly utterly horrible show for me, wallowing in total pretentiousness. Execrable - "saved" only by some good performances.

RentBoy, I totally do see what you mean and I really do apologize if I came off as defensive or anything :) I'm not by any means saying its one of my favorite shows in general, and I def didn't walk away from it feeling "changed". I just thought that there were areas here and there even of the story and lyrics that were quite good And I did really enjoy the music lyrically- there are still a bunch of songs I listen to on a regular basis, just cause they're really good tunes haha. But yeah, I'm def not saying it's any RENT or Les Mis or Wicked
Its not terrible to me, but its not amazing like that. Heck, its not even any Wedding Singer, cause wedding singer makes you feel so good when you leave the theater its not even funny! hehe

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but all those show have problems with them as well. The thing is, I don't care if you like the show, that's fine. I like plenty of shows that other people find horrible, I just don't understand how it could "change" anyone. And I'm sure "Wanna Be A Foster" will be here any second to tell me that, it's not all about me and whatever, but I'm just asking, how did it change your life? Or please, tell me some of the good lyrics? I don't mean that in a bitchy tone at all, I'm just asking. Thanks.

sorry, I totally didn't mean that to sound sarcastic haha. Seriously, I do totally understand whre you're coming from. Like I said, I didn't come away from it feeling "changed", but I just meant that even so that doesn't mean I didn't LIKE it. It was one of those "love the music, amazing singing" type deals. Really it DIDNT change my life, but I still enjoyed it for what it was, you know? I guess theres not any specific lyrics I findd... unbelievable (especially when compared to those of Tick Tick Boom and even RENT), but I do like some of them. Like, Heart Behind These Hands is a pretty good song lyrically I think, and even parts of Superlover (a lot of the talking parts especially) are actually pretty smart. So yeah, again, I def am not saying its THE most amazing shows, just saying its not HORRIBLE either in my opinion :) and like I said, it still in NO way compares to RENT or Wicked or Wedding Singer

Yeah, I still smell the sarcasm, but it's cool.
So you're telling me that "Superlover" has good lyrics in it? I don't even get the point of that song.

I have a slightly different take on this thread. I was born in Brooklyn and spent a lot of my teenage years enjoying the Brooklyn neighborhoods. One of the most enjoyable was Flatbush. It was quite common, on the corner of Church Ave. and Flatbush Ave., to experience very talented street singers. Just down Flatbush Ave. was Erasmus Hall HS whose students included Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand (a little before my time). Erasmus Hall had a very unique archway entrance which acted as an echo chamber making it very conducive to the do wop sounds of the late 50’s and early 60’s. “Brooklyn – The Musical” in some ways brings back that era for me. Of course the music is quite different, but the heart that is put into the music remains constant. Love the show or hate the show; love the music or hate the music it makes no matter. What matters are the performers. I’ve only heard Eden on the cast recording and Diana only live but I certainly can tell you that both young ladies have a lot of heart and a lot of talent as does the rest of both casts. What I have the most appreciation for is the fact that I have “Brooklyn in the Blood” and this show reminds me of that fact. (Well actually the cast recording reminds me more of that than the tour cast.)

"Brooklyn in the blood" they cut from the tour didn't they.If they did you'd certainly have to go to the cast recording. I can appreciate where your coming from. You never forget the place that shaped you.

I'm sorry, I swear I'm not being sarcastic at all! I just have a very bad habit of saying haha, hehe, lol, and using smiley faces a LOT :) but I promise, thats just me being me, not me being sarcastic lol
and no, I mean superlover def doesnt have great lyrics in general, but I do kinda think the talking part is kind of smartly written. It just... brings up some interesting points I think, thats all. Again, most of the lyrics ARENT the best lyrics ever, but its just I dont think theyre really the WORST either

"Brooklyn in the Blood" was cut from the tour. I was very disappointed because it is really a pivotal song in the play. It got Brooklyn to accept Paradice’s challenge. It is also the essence of being from Brooklyn. When I saw it in Hartford, I was talking to a few of the cast members and they were also disappointed that it was cut.

Do you know why the song was cut? I heard because of time, but I can't imagine 4 more mints. would have killed anyone.

They cut Brooklyn in the Blood?
Oh, no, they di'nt.
Right now I as I am posting this I am listening to the CD. Specifically, the song "Once Upon A Time." I absolutly adore this CD because not only was it done LIVE but Eden/Ramona soar in this recording. We have already established a bad storyline however that does not mean that this is not a great cd. Just my opinion - throwing it out there.
