The story here is the audience, young and reactive and ready to go. The couple of lively moments in the actual show demonstrate that this genre has a real place onstage, and I hope that something better than this IP-branded sludge fulfills the promise. If the script is trash, and it is, the staging really needs to deliver some big, memorable moments and they are far too few and far between. Sure, these simpler tension-building effects can be effective if the story really engages enough, but no, I was not invested enough to be impressed that a door opened by itself or a shadow was projected. Did make me nostalgic for fully realized, multi-level sets though.
