Not sure if this has been discussed, but..

With the possibility of no performances from two of the Best Revival nominees, and with CBS wanting as many musical performances as possible, any chances we'll see performances from PROMISES, PROMISES and EVERYDAY RAPTURE on the telecast?

I'm sure Promises will perform, but I doubt Rapture will.
Maybe Addams will be invited to show off their nominated score? Updated On: 5/19/10 at 03:04 PM

I surely hope they will, because at the Tony Awards in 2008, they had even the musicals not nominated for Best perform in sort of abbreviated performances. "Mermaid", "Catered Affair", and "Young Frankenstein" all performed. That year had a lot of performances; thirteen shows were represented. (Last year's opening was good, by the way. I think it had the same number of shows that performed.) The six of eight musicals that were nominated for Best Musical and Best Revival this year, are obviously expected to perform, so it's anyone's guess. How many musicals opened this season including the nominated ones?

Would Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow be the shows not performing, as they closed already?

I would welcome anything from those shows, and Addams, Rapture, or Promises just as long as we have the touring show perform again!

I liked the touring casts, except for Mamma Mia, they were terrible. But it's nice to see performances from some of the oldies that are circling the country and connecting the rest of the population to Broadway. Maybe not touring companies again, but I hope they do spotlight shows other than just the ones developed this season in some fashion...makes the Tony's even more fun to watch :)

Everyday Rapture has really no song that makes sense out of context, so I'm sure they won't perform.

I think Up the Ladder to the Roof would work, but I highly doubt they'll be asked to perform. Instead, we'll get a performance from the national tour of Grease or something.

Nikki Renee Daniels confirmed that PROMISES, PROMISES will perform on the Tony awards. I have no clue on EVERYDAY RAPTURE, but I would assume that we would see it represented in a performance SOMEHOW.

If the Tonys want to gain respect from the people who watch it every year, they should let Barbara Cook perform. Maybe her and Vanessa together.

And "Up the Ladder to the Roof" would definitely work out of context.

I agree, Up the Ladder to the Roof would definitely work out of context for Everyday Rapture.

Also do you know what Promises, Promises is planning on performing?

I would LOVE to see PROMISES do "A Fact Can Be A Beautiful Thing" to showcase both nominees, Finneran and Hayes.

since no real host has been announced i'm guessing the opening number will be most like last year with clips from all the new shows on broadway.

A Fact Can Be a Beautiful Thing from Promises, Promises would be amazing on the Tonys. Watching Chuck and Marge "dancing" during that number was one of the biggest highlights of the show!

Ironic that it happened right after Bret Michaels was wiped the hell out by that set piece. He was the lucky one. He missed out on this hot mess of a duet.

Call me crazy but I kind of love that duet if I don't think too much about it. I especially love the orchestration of the rock-underscored "Bewitched" on Stockard's second section, which just sounds really cool to me.

Also great is Stockard's smile after her first "Bewitched" when she thinks all the crazy extended applause is for her, but is really because everyone just saw Bret Michaels get smacked and is glad he's ok. I swear, though, I've watched that opening so many times that I could probably do a whole Seth Rudetsky-style deconstruction stopping every few seconds to point something out.

Considering how awful most of that telecast sounded, just from a tech standpoint, and of course the Bret Michaels incident, it's no surprise that the odd duet was forgotten about.

My only hope for the telecast this year is that they finally hire somebody to mix it who actually has experience, since clearly whoever did it for the past two years had none.

The trouble with people doing sound mixing is that many of them learned their craft doing rock concerts where it is not unusual to favor the instruments over the vocalists.

The Tony telecast needs someone trained in theatre who knows that the vocals HAVE to be prominent.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

The tech last year was horrendous. I remember watching and after only five minutes, turning to my friend and saying, "Well, someone's getting fired tomorrow."
